I love my boys!!

We all know Dean Bean has allergies. I have been somewhat careful with what i'm eating. The allergist told me to play around with some dairy, but avoid all egg for now. I've been playing around, and he seems gassy with a diaper rash.
I have been avoiding peanut butter with him until he is a little older. He did test negitive to it, but the allergist told me just because the skin test is neg., dosen't mean that hes not allergic. I have eaten Peanut butter (not much) and he has been fine. I came around the corner today, and I saw Dh giving him some of his PB&J. I had a fit. He then told me that while he was watching the kids yesterday, he gave the baby a tsp. of PB to eat...i'm PISSED. So today, he has been REALLY clingy, and just screaming...all day. I'm honestly worn out. Everytime i put him in the car, he wouldn't sleep....like he was BEFORE i found out about the egg allergy, and i was eating eggs. Tonight i felt his tummy start popping like it did really bad when I was eating eggs..... I had a 1/2 bagel on Thurs morning, with nothing on it. Everywhere I read, said there was no egg in bagels, except egg bagels.... Do you think it was the PB, or the 1/2 bagel?? |

It seems that your dh needs some serious food allergy education. Maybe Kris should school him! This is not the first time he has done something like this.
I would leave Dean with Tony and let him deal with the clingy and unhappy baby. |

Your husband is an idiot. I'm sorry, but that's just so irresponsible of him. Dean isn't old enough to eat peanut butter at all, regardless of the allergy issue. What is WRONG with him???? Thankfully, it seems that the issue is more with the bagel than peanuts... thankfully. Yes, I'm being redundant, but in this case... it's warranted. If he WAS reacting to the peanut butter.... the next time could be DEADLY. Do NOT allow Tony, or anyone else... including YOURSELF, to feed Dean peanut butter. If I were you... I surely would not be consuming it with a breastfed kid with so many other gastro issues and allergies. You are just BEGGING for problems. My daughter almost DIED from an *accidental* ingestion. Brenna's allergy tests are NEGATIVE to peanut protein. Blood and skin.... negative (upon repeat testing... initial testing was "slightly" positive *AFTER* her first reaction. I'm going to share a pic with you for future reference. She failed a food challenge (in a controlled setting) miserably. Ian reacted, two weeks ago, to my FIL blowing on his stomach. They were playing together, around 8PM. My FIL had peanut butter for lunch, several hours earlier. He "forgot" about Ian's allergies... and Ian was a MESS!!!!!!! Of course, we had no idea that FIL had eaten peanut butter, since we'd been on the road traveling. We had to reeducate him about the dangers of peanuts around our kids. He felt bad, my MIL was angry... and I was LIVID. Peanuts are NOTHING to fool around with. Period. THere is NO excuse for that. |

This is Brenna, age 17 months.... an hour after having Benadryl after ingesting a MINUTE amount of peanut butter. While I was watching Joshua do something... she took a nibble off my cracker. A NIBBLE.
![]() Her respiratory system began to fail. She looks GOOD in this pic.... her eyes had been swollen shut, tears were falling, she was coughing and having difficulties breathing. 'Nuff said??? |

wow Kris! Thanks for all the info. We dont know about all this stuff, since i didn't think to ask the allergist. We have never had food allergies, no one in our families have food allergies...we just don't "realize" how bad it could be.
We were feeding Mike all kinds of stuff by now. He was eating tuna and PB. I called a nutritionist in my office, asking me when I could feed Dean tuna, since I KNOW Mike had it by now...she told me 1 yr. I have been staying away from PB anyway since we found out about his allergies. Not for any particular reason, just because it hasn't been appealing to me. Dh didn't do it on purpose, it was just his own ignorance. The thing that *really* bothers me, is that everyone(except my mom ) keeps saying "he'll grow out of this, it's just baby allergies....but you need to start givig him some of XYZ". ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() : furious3:![]() ![]() ![]() :evil : DONT play off the serveity of his food allergies....he may seem FINE on the outside, but I can sooo tell when he dosen't feel good...and he becomes VERY clingy and only wants me....for due reason....he needs to be comforted and soothed...Here's another exaple...I had mixed baby cereal in the pantry, next to the oatmeal babycereal. DH wasn't paying attention(he knows i only keep safe foods in the hosue) and grabbed the mixed cereal and gave it to him. I had given it to him a few nights before, and we were up ALL night with gastro issues. I didn't think about the cereal until he was spooning it in his mouth. I braught it up to the allergist, and he told me it was the barley, and to stay away from barley. Now I had given him barley cookies (from the healthfood store) in the past and he seemed fine, but now he's starting to show a little trouble with it. I threw the cereal away..yes, he was up all night after Dh fed it to him...Last night I had some multi grain cheerios, and we were up all night with gastro issues....i looked at the box while i was eating a bowl of it for breakfast, and sure enough, there is barley in it....so now i'm wondering what tonight is going to be like... The allergist told me to start adding some dairy(cheese or yogert) into my diet. I started small with like 3 shreads of cheese, or a small cube of it every few days....he got this odor from his nose that could have knocked someone over...it made my eyes water. I called my ped, and they said the 2 weren't reltated. I called the allergist, and they told me to cut all dairy and see if it goes away...sounds like a bad sinus infection (no other symptoms) I cut my dairy and sure enough, it went away.... I just want to wear a sign on my head that says " Please refrain from giving me any dairy products or anything with egg in it. Yes it sucks, but I am breastfeeding and my son is very allergic. If you are not sure if it has these things in it, please tell me so i don't eat it. These allergies might not go away, so please don't tell me taht they will. Please remember that i'm mom, and i have my sons best intrest in mind, weather you believe it or not." And then I want to shoot them the bird... ![]() I'm convinced no one understands food allergies unless you have them, or your kids do.... |
