Well the news about my poor car is not good news. The couple hour repair has turned into a weekend without my car. The really stupid thing is the repair isnt that major. The heater core has a door on it that has seized up not allowing me to turn the heat to defrost or floor. It is stuck in one position. So normally they just replace the heater core but the warranty company said no too expensive, replace what ever part is causing the heater core door to be seized up. Well in order to diagnose the problem and fix it they have to take my whole dashboard off. Find the problem, order that part, wait for the part, replace the part, and then put the dashboard back together.
So in the mean time I have craft supplies in my trunk that I need for a christmas get together with my moms side of the family on Sat and Sunday, Kaitlyn's diaper bag, my work bag, and my carseat are all in the car. So I was offered a rental car, they dont have any available at the dealership so they ordered me one from Enterprise rent a car.
So here I am stuck at work with no car, rental is not available till 3 and I had to call and have the rental car people pick me up. Go back to the rental car office, fill out the paperwork, drive to the dealership, unload my car, and hope I can make it to DC to pick up Kate by 5. Ed cant pick her up because he had to take her in the morning because i had to drop the car off early, and take the shuttle to work. Because he had to go in an hour late he has to stay an hour late to get his work done. He has to visit 2 different job sites(he works for a construction company) and the last visit is at 3:30 and it is an hour away from our house. He would never make it in time anyway.
Im that I can get ahold of my parents when they get out of work and hope and they can pick Kate up if I cant make it in time.
warranty companies. I have a few choice words for them myself from past experience. My opinion of them is only get the warranty if your going to bring the car back to the same place you got it. I don't see how this is saving them any money either. Is the repair shop giving you a free rental or is the warranty company paying for it? If you have to pay for it, ask what the cost of the heating core is- may well be cheaper than the rental.
That sucks! I agree with Rebecca, it seems that they are spending more money on the rental car.
That is exactly what the service advisor said....he said in order to just diagnose the problem it required completed removal of the dash which cost $600 for labor charges and to just replace the heater core they dont have to take the whole dash apart. He told them it would be cheaper for them to just replace the whole thing. The warranty is through the dealership I bought the car from and the repair is being done by them. But since it is an extended warranty and not manufacturers warranty they have to do what the warranty company says in order to get paid for it. So he said that since they were inforcing making him do the diagnostics he informed them it would take him all day and then wouldnt have the time to get the part in and fixed before they closed at 9, and because he couldnt give me a car with the dashboard all off they needed to approve the rental. This way they can take it apart diagnose it today, order the part tonight to be delivered tommorow or Monday morning depending on what it is and then hopefully have the repair finished Monday morning, the dash put back together and the car ready for pickup on Monday night.
Okay this is totally freaky....but I was on with my mom making sure they have the info to pick up Kate including the code for the door at DC and the dealership called to tell me MY CAR IS DONE!!!!!
Apparantly after they got it apart the first part they came to was the culprit, they had it in stock and were able to fix it and get it back together. He said it was easier to put back together than get it apart. He said the shuttle will pick me up instead of the rental car company and I will have it back in my hot hands by 4 tonight and in perfect time to pick up Kate.
