Still the best Christmas present EVER!

I would ask them what their policy is when you find out your PG?
How often do you get to see the dr, or do you have to see a nurse Practictioner? Hum lets see. There has to be someone else out there who has gotten a new dr. How did you choose them?? When I found my ob, I went to the nurse Practioner for a yearly and then when I was PG they asked if I had a dr. I didn't and of course they recommended the dr they worked for. but I really liked her so it all worked out. |

As long as he or she is nice, dosen't do anything super crazy, and lets me have an epidural, I think I would be mostly happy. |

Here are some sites with questions to ask a prospective care giver:
http://www.motherfriendly.org/Ten_Qu...questions.html http://www.childbirthconnection.org/...e.asp?ck=10158 If you are healthy and low risk - do not forget to consider a midwife vs a doctor for your care provider. MANY women are much happier with midwives vs doctors. |

Midwives tend to empower the mother. And doctors tend to just tell you what to do because they know best. (simplified - obviously each care provider varies) Another perspective to take - my gynecologist (who is an OB as well) had her children with a midwife. About 50% of the babies born in the hospital I went to are born with a midwife in attendance. Now if your a more radical person like myself you could consider a home birth or a birth center. You could still end up with a CNM who can prescribe medication, but you could also find a CPM (Certified Practicing Midwife) or lay midwife. These other midwives can not prescribe medications - though they do carry the basic meds to stop bleeding after child birth and the Rogam shot for Rh- mothers. No epidurals though if you go birth center or home birth. At a birth center you MIGHT be able to get some pain meds. But they focus on other forms of pain management than drugs. |
