I'm destine for bad luck and sick kiddos for life
After the whole flu saga last week I sent the little ones to the sitter on Monday. I had a wonderful day to myself recuperating and getting stuff around the new house done. I talked to my GF that afternoon to see how things were going and she said just fine, the kids were having a great time but the boys had a horribly snotty nose all day. Freaking great I thought... they were absolutely fine that morning when they left. Oh I had no idea what was in store for us!! Bobby was home from work a little early so we ran up to the grocery store before picking up the kids, figuring we could grab some Wendy's as a treat for everyone for dinner - not to mention a night without cooking sounded fabulous! We pick up the kiddos and everything was normal but the boys did look pretty bad - watery eyes, runny nose, etc. Then I noticed all the kids there seemed to have the cold as well. Aaahhhhh payback for enjoying a day to myself I guess... figures!
We ordered Wendy's and Rylie was so damn excited about getting her chicken nuggets

. She was totally fine (no signs of the cold or anything), chatting up a storm and arguing with Peyton just as usual. We finally make it home and I sent the little ones off to put their shoes away and get ready for sinner. Bobby was carrying in the groceries and I headed off to the kitchen to start cutting up Jayden's dinner and get the cold items put away. Just then our neighbor knocked on the door, they are Mexican and don't seem to speak much if any really English. I heard something about a serpent, the little kids and the lawn mower. Then I heard Bobby's mower start up, he has a big commercial monster thing. By this time the little ones are playing in the living room and I'm just finally getting to JJ's food. Then I started hearing this really strange commotion and what sounded like one of the dogs hacking up a fur ball, then followed a couple coughing/choking noises. I realized something wasn't right and started running towards the living room. Cayne must have heard it too, because he was coming out of his room into the living room as I got there. All I could hear was someone gasping for air and Cayne asking what was wrong with Rylie. She was laying on the couch almost face down. I got over there and turned her on her side and the couch was covered in fluid that had come from her mouth and nose. Her eyes where rolled up and she was totally out of it. I just started shouting her name as I got her off the couch. Once I got her in my arms she started to cry a little and I could feel she was burning up so I told Cayne to grab the thermometer and told Sadie (who was coming out of her room to see what was going on) to go get Bobby. Her temp was 102.7 and she was still crying but still "out of it". Bobby comes running in and quickly gets her into the tub. Once in the tub she started coming around but wasn't making much sense and still seemed confused. I got her to take a dose of Motrin and we got her out of the tub. She was drifting in and out of sleep as we were trying to figure out what we should do. I kept checking her temp and it was slowly coming down so I gave her a dose of Tylenol too. That seemed to do the trick and soon the fever was gone. We sat there and watched her sleep for a little bit and then she just woke up asking for a sippy and her chicken nuggets (which Sadie had fed to the boys already... oops!). She drank her sippy and was acting as if nothing ever happened, saying she was hungry and ready for dinner. We gave her some applesauce and she ate some cold fries. By this time they were all ready for bed so we put the boys down and had her sleep in the living room where we could watch her all night. She ended up sleeping all night long we kept checking her temp and it was fine.
She woke up in the morning at 99.4. She was acting fine and asking for breakfast. I checked her again after eating (she ate a normal breakfast too) and she was crawling back up to 101.2, so I called the pedi and gave her some more Motrin. I finally got out of her that her neck was broken so I checked her mouth and noticed a bunch of red dots on her tongue and throat. Strep throat is the first thing that i thought...urg!!!! Sure enough thats what it is, her temp was fine at the office and she was acting normal. They couldn't say for sure if what she had experienced the day before was a febrile seizure or just choking on vomit and acting out of it due to the fever and since no one actually saw what happened I guess we'll never know for sure. They put her on Amox. for 10 days. By the time we got home they were all ready for lunch and a nap! The poor boys were miserable at this point, so I wasn't expecting much for sleep. Much to my surprise they both slept for 2 hours.
As soon as Peyton came out I knew something was wrong... yep 102.1 fever for him - URG!!!!!!!!! I checked his mouth and couldn't see anything unusual so a dose of Motrin for him. I checked him again after about 30 mins and he was still 102 so I gave him some Tylenol too. That did the trick for him too and he was back to 99 soon after. Everyone was fever free and acting normal (besides the watery eyes and runny noses) the rest of the afternoon and through dinner and bath time. Just as we're getting ready to put them down for bed and do another temp check I notice Peyton is all of the sudden MIA - which is unusual as they won't go off and play by themselves in the new house yet. I found him laying in his bed already..... back up to 102.8 this time and he freaked out when I touched both his ears. I gave him some more Motrin and changed him into a tank top and had him and Rylie lay on the couch. I didn't want him out of my sight until I knew the fever was gone. After 30 mins I checked him again and he had went up to 103.3. Into the tub for him and some Tylenol. It seemed like forever but he finally came down to 99.2 and fell asleep. He still flipped out touching his ears so I'm figuring he must have EI's again (which is BAD BAD news if it is). We all slept in the living room again and we checked him throughout the night. He was good up until just before 5am - he went back up to 102.5 so another round of meds and he went back to sleep. So far this morning we have been fever free. Rylie has been back to her normal "Rylie" self and her throat must be feeling better cuz she told me her neck was no longer broken, Jayden is doing okay miserable and cranky from the cold but okay, Peyton seems okay too although he's pretty cranky and whinny. So I'm just seeing how the day goes for now and figure out what we're gonna do about his ears.... ugh!
