is out of the question and it breaks my heart.

He is enrolled and was accepted into the parent participation pre-school program at the elementary school located one block away from our house, but he's not potty trained and is no where near ready to be potty trained, so he definitely can't go for this fall semester. If he does become potty-trained by January he can attend their spring semester, which is from January to June, M-F, 12:30 - 2:30pm.

Anyway, I spent many days week last week calling around and visiting different pre-schools in the area, and became discouraged because I just can't justify spending $440/month for only 2-days a week because I was paying $600 for full-time when i was working, which is insaine!! Even two or three part-time days a week is around $400/month, which again is too darn expensive in my mind!!

The only alternative I can reasonably come up with would be to put him back into the at-home daycare he was attending before I stopped working and he'd only charge us $200/Month for two full-time days a week (Thursday/Friday - the days she has available), which we can totally afford. She does reading circles with the kids, daily trips to the park, swimming, etc.

The reason I'm pushing so hard to put him somewhere isn't for any other reason than because *I feel* he really needs that weekly interaction and play-time with other kids his age. I hate that he's being deprived of that. We've met up with the daycare at the park about once or twice every other week because we're just too busy to go more.

So my question is this.... do you girls think I'm crazy for taking him back to an at-home daycare for kid-on-kid interaction twice a week? Or would it be more worth it at his age to just suck it up and enroll him into a pre-school two days a week????? My mind is spinning on this topic.

I dont think its crazy to send him back to daycare a few days a week for the interaction. By the time Chloe was in prek she knew everything they were going to teach her but I wanted her to go just to get the interaction with other kids. Social skills is one thing that cant be taught by a parent.

I have been feeling the same, it is ashame he can't go to the parent participation one, that sounds great.

I think social skills is a good enough reason to have him in the 2 days. I think the whole thing is way overwhelming and too expensive, that is one of the reasons I have been putting it off.

Are there any other options than pre-school or daycare? Mom's groups, play groups, story times, etc. What about the YMCA? Mine has lots of programs for the 3+ group.

I think if putting him in daycare is the only way for him to get regular interaction with other kids around his age, there is some logic to doing that. But personally it wouldn't be my first choice.

I think I would put him back in the in-home day care for the 2 days a week until January. It sounds like she does more than just sit them in front of the TV all day, so it sounds like a compromise.
