I'm ordering all of Cade's 2nd birthday party stuff, and we're trying to decide between Blues Clues and Dora. Cade loves both of them, but lately he seems much more obsessed with Dora (only wants to eat off his Dora plate, when Blue comes on he says "No, Dora!!"
) and I showed him the party stuff online and he said he wanted Dora. But DH said that Dora seemed to be intended for girls since everything they make is in purple and pink. I can see how they market it like that, but personally I thought the show was pretty neutral. Purple/pink/orange etc just seem to be more Mexican fiesta colors than "girly" ... still, when I looked at the party stuff they have, it does seem to be more catered to a girl party - the favor boxes even have lip gloss bracelets I think it's stupid that they market it mainly to girls like that, but just like I'd feel a little weird giving him a Barbie party (although I'd probably still do it if he really wanted it lol) I feel a bit off with Dora too. I could just substitute something for the lip gloss, and the colors of the party stuff at least seem pretty neutral ...What do you think? Does it look too "girly"? Here's a pic of the party supplies:![]() |

I too would go ahead and do Dora, since that's what he really wants.
And, I'd also switch out the lip gloss...maybe replace with a matchbox car or something. Personally, I don't really like the premade gift bags, but I know they are convenient. I usually go to party city or something like that, and chose small items such as pencils, crayons, you know, those fun little things that kids love so much. One year, we did "YuGiOh" candy bars for Joshua's birthday, wrapped with personalized wrappers. Those were a BIG hit!! Also, just a thought.... I usually buy one or two "themed" items, and then just substitute the other items for solid colors. It's SO much cheaper!! I'd stick with the balloons, and the napkins, and then just buy the solid plates, one color for food, another for dessert, keeping with the theme. |

Giving away FREE crotch extenders -- do I have any takers??

I would do Dora too. If you're really worried about it or Dh says "no", then could you do Diego? Isn't that Dora's cousin or brother? And then custom make the gift bags? Kris had some good suggestions. We made our own bags from Party City. I know Thomas really wanted "Wiggles" last year and DH said "no". I guess it'll be easier with Lauryn 'cuz Dh won't care if she wants cars or barbie, KWIM? The gender thing is so frustrating, the poor boys don't know or care about the colors and stuff. Thomas loves pink
GL and let us know how the party goes?? |

Aw I love Dora!! I don't think it is too girly. Brayden loved Dora nad still watches it sometimes (when no one is looking
) Because I have 2 boys I told DH that Maddox will love cabage patch kids (they are my favorite oh and care bears!) In the long run I am sure having some "more girl oriented" things aren't going to change his life style preferences kwim? |

Welcome home baby Lily!!!

When Will was around 3 he had a male "barbie doll" version. He was a GI Joe fireman. He was the same size as a barbie doll and had a fireman's hat, coat, boots, clothes and came with this oxygen tank and hoses. He had so much fun playing with that. In fact my DH bought it for him. He would put him in his Tonka 4x4 truck and play with him outside a lot.
Now that he's 9 he wouldn't admit he ever touched it. But he did ask if we still had him and said Hayden would have fun playing with him. It didn't warp him or cause any harm. He just thought he was a cool fireman with stuff and he could drive him around. |
