Update on Lauryn *New update page 2*
We went to the ENT this morning and he said her tonsils were a 3+ out of 4, her ear drums were dull and she had slight congestion. He said that we would talk about a treatment plan after he got a radiology report and they sent us for X-Rays (oh, what fun). He said they normally see this in kids with allergies especially with as young as she is. He believes that her stature may be a contributing factor (since she is small/has small features) and the obstruction may be the reason she isn't thriving better (she doesn't eat well). Does anyone have any experience with this? I thought this happened with kids that had recurrent infections, etc. She has only had one EI ever. I guess I only see the kids that have the infections before they have the tonsils/adenoids out, not kids like Lauryn that are otherwise healthy.
Nope - can't help you there. But if her tonsils are so big, maybe that makes it hard to swallow food? That would explain some of her pickyness in eating. But toddlers are notorious picky eaters, so it may have nothing to do with it.
Any idea of what she could be allergic too? If any thing.

As far as we know, she has no allergies. She hasn't had a ton of ear or respiratory problems either. If this started as allergies, I think the Claritin would've worked better than it did. Things got worse after we took the pacifier away, so I wonder if that helped keep her airway (through the nose I mean) open. I wonder if the pedi that saw her for her 2 year check up just blew off the enlarged tonsils or if they were normal then. How you could ignore tonsils that size I don't know! I'm full of questions

We went in for X-rays this morning. The nurse told me to call the office in the morning and they will have the dr call me right back if he isn't available when I call. He will tell me the options then. I'm a little worried that they want to surgery right away and she'll be recovering at Christmas, so no traveling to see everyone like we had planned.

I would think you could schedule the surgery for right after Christmas. Would depend on how urgernt it was. Obviously it's causing her major problems and needs to be delt with. But on the other hand, maybe she would start sleeping better and be a much happier child over Christmas, even with a sore throat from surgery?
