This makes about 2 1/2 dozen:

approx 12 oz oreo cookies (traditional package is > than a pound, so just eat a few before you start cooking and it should be about right )
8 oz block cream cheese
6 - 8 oz (a little more is good so not running low in the end) melting chocolate, either white or milk chocolate (Baker's makes a 'dipping chocolate' in microwave tubs and I used that)
1-1 1/2 cups peppermint candies (use the white dipping chocolate with the peppermint) or nuts (I used pecans with milk chocolate)

crunch up oreo cookies in food processor and add cream cheese. blend until uniform mixture.
Roll into 1-1 1/2 " balls and set aside
melt chocolate in double boiler on low heat or microwave
stir in crushed candy/nuts
dip balls into melted choco mixture to coat
set aside on wax paper at room temp to harden

This was a very easy recipe and they look like expensive truffles

you would use crushed peppermint with white dipping chocolate or nuts with milk chocolate. Does that make more sense? It was a little hard to explain. sorry.
