Giving away FREE crotch extenders -- do I have any takers??
|
Anyone have any experience, thoughts on this? I am looking into applying for both the Classical Magnet and the Math, Science Technology magnet schools for Thomas next year. I'm excited about a more private school atmosphere and keeping him in the afterschool program where his friends will be (probably not an option if he goes to the elementary school in our neighborhood). I've talked to a couple of parents that really like it, but I don't know them very well so

Never heard of "Magnet" schools.
I have considered Montessori and Waldorf schools. The Waldorf is private and would cost me, but the Montessori is a public charter school. There is also an international public charter school in my school district that interests me. The Montessori has a 4-year-old preschool and is only 2 or 3 blocks from my DCP. |

I used to teach in a 'magnet school'. The cirriculum there was based on Spanish. (Spanish Immersion in Columbus Public). Are you looking at academies, magnet schools, or charter schools? There are so many different ones now that it seems impossible to keep up to date-even for the teachers. The best thing I can tell you about magnet schools is that the tend to have smaller pupil:teacher ratios, more individualized attention, and a 'leg up' on its core cirriculum. I think you're smart to start looking at schooling options now even though Thomas is so young. My advice is do your research-which you are. Visit the schools if you can make time and take Thomas with you. Socialization is such an important part of growing up so don't let anyone tell you that keeping him with friends isn't important. I'm done yapping now and will get off my soapbox......

If Ty says it's big, then trust him - it's BIG!

I am not sure what they are either.
I know we have a church that teaches pre K through 4th and they also have an after school daycare/activities. I have been thinking about doing something like that but the school the girls go to is so nice I am still not for sure. But if you think it would benefit Thomas its definitely worth a shot. |

We have magnet schools in our area, as well as charter, home-based charter, Montessori, and etc....
I would LOVE to send my kids to a Montessori school - especially Brenna... I think she would thrive in that environment, even though she is doing well in traditional school. I do think that it would depend on the type of magnet school, for it to be "better" than the public schools in our area, which are top ranked. I'd love to send my kids to a Spanish immersion school, or something of the likes. But, that's not an option around here. Joshua would THRIVE in a math, science, technology magnet. Oh, he'd LOVE that. I don't think that's available around here either. (Magnet schools are usually specialized schools that draw (magnet... ) people from across the country, out of nearby school boundaries, and from all over DUE to their specializations.) |
