Default Rachels eyes.

Just need to talk about it really, DH doesn't understand why I am upset.
I don't know much about glasses as I just got my eyes checked and started wearing contacts. But the girls school checks the kids eyes every year.Rachel brought a note saying she is borderline for needing glasses. I made her appointment the the DR that did the exam at school and he said she needed glasses. So we get her frames picked out,a whole different rant but they made her pick from the cheep and not very girly ones saying that our insurance will only pay for those, and get them back and I notice that a majority of the kids in her class needed glasses too. It kinda made me wonder if the DR was just scamming the parents.
So I take her to my moms DR. yesterday and he tells me her eyes are really bad. he said she is far sighted and needed a+ 2 in one eye and a + 2.75 in the other. She needed to go up 3 powers in both eyes from what the other Dr. had her. IF anyone knows about eyes and can tell me if that is bad let me know.
The nurse let her pick ANY frames she wanted saying that our insurance will pay 125 off any frame. So she will get a cute little red Disney pair that the insurance will pay all of.
I just wonder why there was such a difference between the 2 Dr.I also wonder if she will get worse as she ages. She has so many mild health problems it makes me sad.

That is a big difference in the 2 drs. I would ask Rachel how her vision is. Can she see better with the new glasses etc. I think it's hard to test kids. I know how hard it is for me to say which lense is more clear when the dr asks me, so I can only imagine how it is for a kid. Shame on the 1st dr for not giving you all the info on what the insurance will cover. My dr lets me know what they'll pay for and just charges me the difference.

I'm a novice at glasses, even though my DS has been wearing them since age 2 due to a stigmatism in his right eye and he's far sighted. The poor little guy is blind as a bat without the glasses...the only reason we knew that he needed them is that his eye started turning inward.

I would say that the first DR is a dud. I always get second opinions on things like that...especially if it's concerning the kids. So, it's really good that you did. I'm sorry to hear that the doctor was trying to scam you. Sounds like he really doesn't know what he's doing - OR he is doing it on purpose (which would be really sad). It's really bad to say...but you might still want to get one more opinion to make sure which one might be on course. I know it's a pain...but, honestly, sounds to me you did good with the second doctor. Zachery just got his glasses redone this year (I saw the disney red ones - they ARE cute!)...Zachery got the ones with the magnetic sunglasses that fit on top. In Blue. We couldn't find red one's that we're too girly...so, he ended up with blue.

Good luck with the glass thing. Wish I could help more...but, I'm still really new at all of this, and, I have NO idea what the numbers mean!

I've been wearing glass/contacts since 5th grade. Right now, I'm glasses only, giving my eyes a much needed break from 8 straight years of nothing but contacts.

In my opinion, the eye tests they do in the schools are not nearly as "accurate" as what an opthamologist would do. I would go with the recommendations of the doctor your mom is familiar with.

Joshua has been complaining of headaches, and I've noticed him squinting at times when he looks at the board or tv. I need to get his eyes checked. Thanks for the reminder!

I don't know much about the numbers. But I can say is is normal to have different #'s in each eye.

I wore glasses from 18 months old until I was in 4th grade. I am legally blind in my right eye. The last time it was checked (about 6 years ago I'm sad to say due to insurance and other things) My vision was 20/200. But my other eye has perfect vision.

I agree with what the pp said about the "school" eye dr. much worse. and it sounds like that guy was really bad. sorry they tried to scam you. I could get worse as she gets older, but so long as you continue to take her to the eye dr. you'll be able to keep on top of it.

Aw I am sorry you are so upset about this I don't know a single thing about glasses just wanted to give you some support. I am glad she got a pretty pair Remember that they are doing some pretty spectacular things with eye surgeries and stuff. By the time she is a teenager they withh probably have some sort of corrective surgery that takes two minutes

Thank you girls. I have been thinking about taking her for third opinion But she hates the exam so I am thinking about making DH take her since she is such a daddy's girl.
I have asked her if she can see better with her glasses and she says yes for sure. I will be anxious for her to get this new script and ask her how she sees with those.
The 2nd Dr also told me he was shocked that as bad as her eyes are she doesn't have a lazy eye or cross eyes.
I am taking Chloe for her exam tomorrow and I have my list prepared with lots of questions.
