I DVR the today show(I know what a dork) and I was watching it when I was up all last week witht he sick kids and what the story was about is that ALL plastic bottles and containers contain bisphenol A and when they heated through microwave or washing and when they are used multiple times the chemical is released and they are not sure exactly what level is dangerous just that it is. It was pretty inconclusive bit what I took away was that if you look at the recyle triangle on teh bottom and it has a 3, 6, or 7 these are not safe for multiple uses or heating. Those are typically the hard poly carbonate reusable bottles. They recommended throwing those out. Most bottles and food containers are 1 which are safe for one time use only. They recommend not re-using these. They sited a study that 98% of all people tested had some level of BPA in their system. Hope this helps. Pretty scary but not new info. Most allt he bottles and sippy cups I had have 5 on the bottom. They recommended throwingout bottles cups etc once they appear cloudy.

I had heard it's the #7 plastics that were questionable. And the bottle I take every day to work with water is a #7.

This is probably the story the lady at my work was telling me about. So if iy has a 1, 3, 6 or 7 that means single use only??

1 is designed for single use. But the others - at least 7 for sure - are designed for multiple use. Which really makes it all confusing.

It is all really confusing... I do know this, I will always think twice about eating or drinking something out of a warm plastic container or one that's been reused.. I tend to be a worry wart so I am sure my dh is going to love this

I've been a researching FOOL! Here is some information/cheat sheets I found on plastics. Everything I've read says to AVOID numbers 3, 6 and 7.

Look at these:

As Belinda posted it is that you should avoid all together anything that is 3,6, or 7 and use the 1s only 1 time. A lot of reusable stuff does not have any number on it, I just threw those out. I have found a few things like a aluminum jug thing. They recommend going straight with glass but that doesn't seem realistic although people did it pre-plastic loving times.
