When is it safe to let the baby have a comfort item in their crib?
Is it ever safe to let them sleep on their belly?

My kids were tummy sleepers. I tried the positioner pillows and it just didn't work. If I remember right, they're ok as long as they can roll over and lift themselves up with their hands (push up).

Ever since Brody could roll over, he has been going right to his tummy as soon as I put him in bed. I used to worry about it.. but if he's strong enough to roll over, he's strong enough to lift his head and by the age of 6 months, SIDS chanced are reduced drastically. Brody has a blankie and a prayer bear that he LOVES... when I'm putting him to bed, when I hand one of those items to him, he goes right to sleep... The blankie is not big at all, so I don't worry too much but every night before I go to bed myself, I just sneak in his room and take it from him just to put my mind at ease

Austin's older, but, he has a blankie and a blanket. The 'blankie' is his lovey that Terri got for him, and his 'blanket' is his small very lightweight crocheted blanket that Tricia made for him. He's been using the blankie since about 5 months, the blanket and blankie since about 6 months (when he could roll over and lift up).

At 8 months I think it okay for him to sleep on his tummy. He might sleep better.
As far as blankets and other things, I think it's your call. You need to feel comfortable with him using them.
As soon as my girls were sleeping on their stomaches I covered them with blankets. I felt that they were mobile enough to keep from smoothering themselves.

I am against all odds and I don't know why I feel this way after losing a cousin to SIDS but both of my children are tummy sleepers. Clarysa will only sleep for about 30 min when on her back but if she is on her tummy, she sleeps for 4-5 hours. For my sanity, I let them sleep on their tummies. With Clarysa, I am just constantly checking on her.
