The GI changed Dean's meds to Miralax(he also needs the stool softner) but i have to give it in 4-6oz of water. I can't get him to take 4 oz of anything at a time...let alone something not coming from my boob. I put the miralax in water and a little juice this morning, and have been toting it around, and he's only drank 1/2 oz. I can get him to take it out of a suringe, but I can't find one big enough to told 4 oz. The ones I have are 10 ml, and 30 ml is 1 oz...can imagine how many i would have to give him? I'm also worried about him taking that much fulid at one time...he's not used to it...any ideas? Should I just suck it up and give him a supository every day?

I had to go the supository route with Brody when it came to fever reducing, since everything I gave him made him throw up.. It wasn't that bad actually... I guess it would be kind of a pain everyday, but atleast I would know he was getting it...

I would call the GI doc and tell him there is no way in hell to get him to take that amount of water in a sitting. What about the lactulose? I would think increasing the dose of that would work without adding another med. What kind of suppository were you gonna give him? gycerin? Did they tell you to use that daily if no BM?

Yes, they said that because he's eating solids, he needs a BM every day. They think he needs a stool softner as well, since it's so hard. The Lactulose made his sooo miserable, unable to sleep, etc. That's why we are trying to Miralax.....can I mix it in food?

I think you can mix it in any liquid, so I would think you should be able to give it to him in a bottle with bm or formula......

Sadie has to use Miralax whenever she needs a procedure done. Although they claim it does not give you cramps, it gives her awful stomach cramps every single time she takes it. It can be mixed with any liquid, so if BM is all Dean will take why not mix it with that?? It is also a stool softener... did they give him another stool softener to use with it?? Did you actually give him the full dose of Lactulose before giving up?

I'm a little confused by you saying Dean doesn't eat 4oz of anything at a time. So then you are strickly nursing him, right - no bottles of formula or BM at all? How often and how long is he nursing? How much solids is he getting? How is his weight?

You could give it to him via syringe right before you nurse him. That way he will be getting more liquids into him. And probably more than 4 ozs if you do it with a morning feed.
