With this RSV crap?? If you've experienced it, how long did it last for? I know they say the cough can last for weeks.
We are at 2 1/2 months from when he was first sick and a month from when he started the breathing treatments. He has faithfully gotten them at least twice a day with most days getting them three times. He keeps getting worse and worse, he's actually way worse now than a month ago and the pedi thought he was at the end of it then. He was up five times last night, from snorting, coughing on the mucous, etc. He sounds like a freight train! He's loosing his appetite and starting to vomit more. I haven't been keeping track of his weight lately because he was doing so well, but I weighed him this morning and now I'm concerned. 4 weeks ago at the RSV appt he weighed 13lbs 9oz (up a pound and 3oz in 3 weeks), a week later when my friend had her little boy over he weighed 13lbs 13oz and today he weighed 14lbs 2oz, so he's gained 5oz in the 3 weeks (our scale is usually right on with the pedi).
I'm trying not to be a paranoid nut job here but with his lack of weight gain I'm concerned. Plus I would think he would be showing some signs of improvement by now, not being worse off... right? I did put a call in to the pedi to ease my mind and see what they think about the weight.
I'm sorry he is still so sick. It's possible he has developed pneumonia or bronchitis. Is he on any antibiotics right now for it? I would definitely want a doctor to take a look at him with it being so long now. He may also have caught some thing else that is making it worse. But he should be getting better by now, not worse.
Giving away FREE crotch extenders -- do I have any takers??
I would think you would see more improvement by now. I'm sorry he's still suffering As for the weigh gain, I think it probably has to do with the sickness. I wouldn't be overly concerned about that right now since he's gaining some. I hope the pedi has some answers for you.
They wanted to see him yesterday so back again we went. Pedi says when kids that young get it sometimes they have a really hard time getting rid of it, due to lung immaturity and sometimes it can take months and months to get back to normal. He also said that EI are common with RSV so if he spikes a fever or starts tugging on them to bring him back, but for now his ears look just fine. Although there was lots of wheezing and junk in his chest, he said it wasn't really thick and tight (a good thing). We need to start him on Pulmicort treatments through the nebulizer twice a day for the next month, he thinks the steroids will give him a little extra boost in trying to fight this off. So we gotta keep trucking along trying to make him as comfortable as possible. He wants us to keep an eye on his weight, just make sure he doesn't go down or stop gaining.
