I love my boys!!

I don't know if it;s just me making a big deal about nothing, but i feel like i'm going crazy. When Dean got sick 2 weeks ago, I stopped his reflux meds, cause i thaught he was pretty much over the reflux thing. I took the wedge out of his crib, and basically cut him off, thinking he was better. Well ALL of his symptoms returned. I took him for his follow up yesterday with the GI, and she called it a "reflux relapse". He's having mucusy diareaha, and yesterday there was blood in it. I'm wondering if that's from a new food allergy.
I took him to the allergist today, and I saw the PA. She was totally stumped. She looked at me and said "I have no idea....." I had bread on Sat., and I asked 3 times if it had dairy or egg in it. They said no. Then the PA gave me the lecture about cutting out all "hidden dairy" Umm, please don't talk to me like i'm stupid...I've cut out cassen, whey, the whole 9. So they want to do allergy testeing for bananas and stuff on Thurs. She gave me the option of skin and blood tests, and told me that the skin would be less invasive. So i'm going to do the skin test, and then if it's negitive(which they think they will be, follow up with the blood test) His stomach is doing all the things he was doing BEFORE we got the egg allergy diagnosis...the gurgling, popping...he's hasen't slept for longer than 2 hrs at night since last Thurs. I just want him better.....am I crazy for this??? |

Skin testing is LESS invasive? I'd have to say NO on that one.
They put the stuff on your skin then scratch you with a needle, and you have to sit there.... perfectly still for 15 minutes while awaiting a reaction. If there IS a reaction, your poor little guy will become HORRIFICALLY itchy!!!!! A 2 second finger prick is a whole lot less invasive for a baby!!!! |

I've had skin scratch testing on my back and intradermal testing on my arms. That's when they actually inject some of the allergen right under the skin, as opposed to just "scratching" it into the skin. Joshua and Brenna have both had skin testing. They were older and handled it well, but the reactions caused them significant discomfort for hours after the testing was over with. When I had the testing done, I reacted so badly that I had to be injected with epinephrine, through a giant needle, in my ass. NOT FUN! (LOL!!!!!) Jess - if I were in your shoes, I would seriously reconsider letting them skin test. If the blood reacts, there is no harm done to the baby. However, during skin testing... it's very possible that it'll be very unpleasant. Granted, having blood drawn is not at all pleasant, but it won't be fun keeping a tiny baby still for 15 minutes. If the "drops" mix with each other - you might as well forget any chance of an accurate result. Plus.... with a blood test, they can check for multiple food allergies at one time, with NO RISK to the child. |

"Mom, put Ty back in your belly ~ he keeps touching my toys"

When I stopped Ty's Prevacid a few weeks ago after 5 days he went back to all the symptoms including the gurgling and popping stomach. Maybe see how he does after a week back on the Prevacid? I am sorry he is having a hard time.

Wanting your child to be healthy and happy is not crazy. Wanting to get more than 1-3 hours of sleep at a time is not crazy. ![]() |
