Jersey is here and doin' well...
|
Just wanted to post so you know we're still alive. Jersey and I are doing good. We had some issues with PPD which I'm struggling with but we're getting past them but there is NOTHING that makes you feel like a bad mom when you just want to choke her, KWIM? Anyway, she turned 4 months old on March 17. She started rolling over to her left a week before that. She is now trying to crawl and can drag herself (army-crawl) if she can get ahold of the sheet, carpet, etc. She had her next checkup on the 7th so I will know more then. She took my hand I was eating with and put the roll that was in my hand up to her mouth twice on Easter. I took my hand away both times, and the third time she grabbed my roll and gummed it. All I could do was stare in disbelief. I believed it was WAY too early to start on solids but I guess time has really flwon by. The ped. wants us to wait. He said 8-12 months (or when she lets you know by grabbing your food). Well, on Sunday we were out to eat so I feed her a little tiny bit of strawberry goo that was on my dessert and she grabbed to spoon and held it in her mouth. The little devil wouldn't let go!
Now, I know that this whole comparing babies thing is way overated but I had ???'s I figured you girls could help me with. If a baby rolls one way when they start rolling, will that be their dominant hand? Is there any correlation? If her eyes are going to change, when will they? Now, they are a blue/green. Mine are brown, DH are green. When did your babies start crawling, sitting up, walking, and talking? When do I need to start worrying if she won't drink water or isn 't walking, talking, etc.? I feel like I'm a new mom now that I am kind of coming out of this funky 'fog' of PPD. I can actually enjoy being with her without wanting to hit her. Doesn't that sound terrible??!?!!!? Got to go, the bell rang.... My day of subbing is over!!! |

Because I said so, that's why!

Development miles stones vary so much from child to child. Mine didn't crawl until 11 months and she started walking around 13 months.
It is suggested you avoid giving berries to babies under 1, as they are supposedly high allergy items. But if she wants to eat, it is probably OK to give her a little bit. But I won't be doing much for solids yet. The current recommendation is wait until at least 6 months. Mine didn't get much for solids until 8-9 months. |

"Mom, put Ty back in your belly ~ he keeps touching my toys"

i started to type a response earlier and Ty wouldn't let me.
okay here goes, as far as developmental milestones go, I have never heard of any connection between which way they roll and hand dominance, so I really do not see any correlation there. As far as PPD, are you taking any medication or just feeling better? Are you getting any you time, able to get help, get rest, etc? I am glad you are feeling better. With regards to foods and feeding solids, every baby is different and I think it is important to follow her lead. I would say to be cautious with overly sugary foods and watch for allergy with regards to berries, nuts, dairy etc. I personally think it is good to start with baby friendly foods-like cereal or purees of whatever you are eating without added salt or butter etc. With my boys I started Jake around 4 months after being pressured by my pedi because he was like 2o pounds and she said he must be starving-he wasn't. Anyway, with Ty I started and stopped a few times because of his reflux and some food allergies but at 6 months he was truly ready-grabbing everything he could to eat. She may also have grabbed your spoon tpo gnaw on because of teething. I think you have to trust your gut and if you think she is ready just go for it and just be cautious. You can always hold off if you think she really was not ready after all. About eye color, both my boys had blue-gray until 8-9 months and now htey are both brown. I have brown and dh has green. Keep us posted on how you all are doing and this is a great place to get support for ppd or vent about baby frustration-I think we have all been there at some time. |

Giving away FREE crotch extenders -- do I have any takers??

I'm glad you're feeling better
Yay, for subbing!! Have you been doing it for very long? I know you were having trouble getting a teaching job.I don't know about the rolling and hand dominance. Thomas' eyes changed pretty late. They are hazel but with more brown in them. Dh's are light brown and mine are hazel with more green. Lauryn's are blue. There's a lot of blue eyes in my family. I started solids at around 4 months with both kids, if memory serves . I would watch the high allergy foods to be safe.Check back when you can! |

I'm at the library now. I have been working two jobs (not including the mommy job). That's been part of the problem as well as DH issues (who hasn't had those lately) and some major sleep deprivation. I work 35-40 hours a week at a gas station on my feet 8 hours a day (two or three 4:30p-12:30 AM shifts and two midnight- 8AM shifts). I started subbing yesterday. It went really well-I had enough energy to get on DDB during my last period which was planning! I also am looking into applying for a local ag teaching job that just became available.
Anyway, I'll lurk around the boards for now..... |
