Ty has been doing well so I have been thinking of stopping the Prevacid, my doctor said at the 6 month appointment that we could try to stop whenever he was sleeping better so we can see if it makes a difference and that it would take about 3 days to see the difference. So my question is, WWYD, and those of you whose lo were on it before when did you stop? I am nervous because he is sleeping so well FINALLY but I would like to stop it if I can. TIA

I'm all for getting kids off drugs. I have not dealt with the problem the caused you to put him on it to begin with. But if he doesn't need it, he shouldn't be on it. If you do discover he still needs it, how long will he need to be back on it to get the positive results back?

It took about a month for the meds to really work, although I think it would be more like a week. I agree that is he doesn't need it he should not be on it-that is why I want to stop. He has been on it since 2 months and I have tried 2 other times to stop but he went back to waking every 30-45 minutes all night long and not sleeping during the day and having to be carried all the time. My pedi said once he was sitting up, craling, etc the reflux wouldn't be as bad so that would be a good time to try and stop it. I last tried at 6 months but within 2 days he was a mess. I do think he is spitting up less, and the prevacid does not decrease the spitting up it just stops the acid production so it doesn't damage the esophagus and isn't as painful. I think I am gonna try to see how he does. I am just nervous, it has been nice sleeping a few hours at one time.

I hear you there. Mine has actually been sleeping for 4-6 hour stretches at a time lately and it's just divine! At 8 months I was super lucky to get a 3 hour stretch of uninterrupted sleep.

I would be scared to try but that is just because we are in the MIDDLE of it being really bad. But if he is doing better, I would probably try to get him off also. I hope it works this time and he doesn't need it now.

If you're giving it twice a day I would try and just give it to him at night. If you;re only giving it to him at night, I would be inclined to try and stop it around 9 months and he's really close to that age anyway.
