Default Oh my.. What a night..

We took Brody to the doctor today and they said it was a stomach bug and an ear infection.. They gave us amoxicillan and motrin and said to come back in three weeks and that was it...
Okay, so let me start off by saying what every first time parent says..
I wish these things came with a manual!
So the first dose of amoxi was used at 2pm and by 3:30, he was back to his old self, rolling all over the floor and playing with his toys...
By 8 o'clock, it had been time to eat but he didn't wake up like he usually does when I get ready to bf him.. They told me to make sure he has plenty of fluids or else I wouldn't have tried to wake him up to feed him...
So then I thought he felt a little hotter than he had and I went to take his temp and it was 104! Then I noticed that his breathing was SUPER labored.. I mean, he would take a breath every 10 seconds or even longer and it scared the heck out of me and Mark.. I asked Mark if I should call 911 and he said yes and I grabbed the phone, called and ran across the street to get our neighbor Lori who is an L&D nurse.. She ran over and checked his heartrate and by that point, mark had put water on him to try to wake him up... It worked because by the time the paramedics got there, he was breathing fine again and his fever went back down to 101.. It was so crazy.. When I was on the phone with 911, you have no idea the thoughts that were running through my head... like "I can't live if my baby isn't in my life"... The paramedics acted like everything was normal and they said "it was a good thing to call because better safe than sorry" which made me feel better about the whole thing but still, the fact that they said this is normal when they are sick just boggles me.. Umm, my kid hardly breathing is NOT normal to me.. And he I called the nurses at the ped's office and they said he should be fine.. I am calming down a little bit now but my heart still feels like it is in my throat and my stomach hurts.. I tell ya, this parenting thing will do a number on your nerves... No wonder my mom always tried to justify the freaky things she said or did by saying "you'll understand one day when you're a mom" and holy shit was she right! lol... Anyway, I just wanted to get all of this off my chest...

Oh no!! Poor guy and poor mom!! It can be so scary when they spike fevers and are lethargic like that. I wish I could say it gets easier as time goes on, but alas it doesn't.

What a night is right, how scary that must have been for you! When Rylie was just over a year old she just started screaming one night (she had not been sick or anything). Bobby went in there and after a couple minutes of her continuing to scream non-stop I went in there. Bobby just said I can't get her to stop and she won't wake up. He was picking her up at this point and she was limp, I turned on the lights and she was still literally non-stop screaming. I grabbed the thermometer and started taking her temp because she felt hot, it jumped up to 104 and was still climbing and her eyes were rolled back and still screaming. I was dressed, called my father (Peyton was just a few weeks old) and had her in the car in seconds - I swear my father was here by the time we were out the door too. We flew to the ER... they had no idea what caused it but chalked it up to a EI (despite her ears looking fine). They gave her Tylenol and Motrin and a shot of Penicillin and it was over just as quickly as it began. Cayne had a febrile seizure when he was 18 months old. He was at my sisters house getting ready to come home and apparently just dropped to the floor, started seizing, eyes rolled back and then he stopped breathing and was turning blue. My sister was talking to 911 and my BIL was calling us. We arrived just after the paramedics did. I am so glad I did not witness that first hand, I'm not sure I could have handled that one. It turned out to be a double EI that caused the fever.

Anyways I am so glad he is alright
