One handed typing sorry ...
We didn't have an infant car seat due to a car accident when Cayten was a baby. Our friend offered to give us hers that she just got done using. We gladly accepted without even thinking. Yesterday as I was getting ready to go home, I realized the car seat expired two months ago. So, now we have to get a new one. Here is the problem . . . With Cayten we bought a convertible one that will carry him up till he is 100 lbs or doesn't need it anymore. We don't know if we should go with convertible again or infant. I want an infant one again, at least until she is more sturdy. Dh wants the convertible one. What do you think? |

Personally, I'd go with an infant seat during infancy. They are geared specifically for their tiny newborn floppy bodies. The bigger convertibles are really geared toward the larger child, even if they can accommodate an infant. I would want my newborn to be totally cradled and secure, and not flopping all over the place in the larger seat.

Because I said so, that's why!

If money is an issue - I would go with the convertible. That's what I did. In part because I didn't think she would fit in an infant carseat very long. My nephew would have only fit till he was about 4 months old. In hind sight - she would have fit in an infant seat till she was almost 1. Would have been nice to be able to carry her in and out of the house when she was asleep instead of waking her up by taking her out of the car seat.
The other question is how much do you use your carseats? If your child/ren don't go out of the house in a car much, then it's not that big of a deal. I went with the Britax Roundabout for Liriel. I thought it was fine for a newborn. I really didn't want the bigger seat that would have lasted longer because: a) it took a LOT more room rear facing b) it was a lot bigger with a tiny newborn c) it cost more (but would have been cheaper in the long run because I now have to replace the Roundabout). d) Wasn't rated as highly I just ordered her replacement carseat yesterday. Could have waited a few more months, but they were on sale this week. ![]() |

Giving away FREE crotch extenders -- do I have any takers??

We did the infant car seat and I think it works out better for the in and out of the car with a sleeping child situation. It would be cheaper for you up front and you can get the seat you really want for when she's older in say 6 to 9 months. We did the Roundabout with Thomas until he went into a booster and will do the same for Lauryn.
