Hopefully you are online Emma!

Dh was prescribed this for asthma. It has made everything worse it seems. He's having more asthma attacks, he's had a really bad dry/phlemy cough after he started taking it, and he feels like he can't breathe. Are these normal side effects from it? He hasn't take it in a few days to see if he would be able to breath better, but no luck. He said he has a really hard time pushing air out. I really was worried I was going to have to take him to the ER today. He had this coughing spell, and he was wheezing really bad...he couldn't catch his breath. Would Xopenx help him until he can call his dr on Monday? We have .83 Xopenex, and then I have a script for albuterol at the pharmacy for me(for the neb) What do you think? Any sugestions?
TIA!

I would get him the albuterol from the pharmacy. Maybe there's something else going on?? there's a lot of allergy/sinus stuff going on here. Maybe they need to change the Advair strength or change him to Symbicort.

If you already have the Xopenex... I would think he should try that. Basically, Xopenex is just a "cleaned up" version of Albuterol... so it's superior to it.

My kids haven't used Advair, but I understand it takes a while to get used to it. I talked about it with their allergist and with someone at an asthma education day. I thought it looked like something that might be good for Joshua.

I hope he feels better soon. My dh also has asthma... and has been having a heck of a time with it over the past couple weeks. Right now he's on oral steriods to fend off a really nasty episode.

I hate asthma.

Xopenex dose for adults is either the 0.63mg or 1.25 depending on severity. Most older kids and adults end up using the 1.25mg. Since the Xopenex is so expensive you would be better off getting the albuterol if you can, assuming he has used it before and doesn't have any problems with it. I say this thinking the Xopenex is for the boys.

I had them call me in the albuterol, cause i couldn't afford the refill for the xopenex. How many times a day should he do it today, and then i will have him call his dr tomorrow....

It's typically used 3 to 4 times a day as needed.
