Another project...
I want to put pavers down off of the side of the hous where it is currently pea gravel. I just got an estimate for concrete...$1750! Uh, no! I've been wanting the gravel gone since we moved in, but not at that price. Are pavers really tough to do?

Cody's mom actually sells pavers and when we were finishing our backyard just last summer we got an estimate on having pavers laid down and concrete and our estimate for pavers was outrageous because of the actual labor of properly laying them down.
Just like in any project... if you want it done properly, you're gonna pay for it.
Sucks!

Are you talking about bricks being laid down or about concrete being poured?

It was $1750 for poured concrete. I can't see myself pouring concrete, so I thought I could do pavers.

If you do it yourself, just make sure you pack the ground down good and it's LEVEL. The biggest mistake is not making sure the ground is level before placing the bricks/pavers down. That's the step my neighbor kind of skipped when she did it.

I agree about having it level, and packed down. there is actually a tamping machine that you would use for the packing
we had a paver patio done in March, we love it! but we had someone do it for us, as dh is what I would call handy with stuff like that. It only took 2 days
ETA:We only paid $3500 for a 500 sq ft patio with the pavers, concrete would have cost much more

I got the estimate in writing today. The guy lowered it to $1600. probably based on my response to the $1750
It's for 168 sq ft, 4"thick with rebar. It just seems like a lot of money.
