Working Hard Keeping the Hussy's In Line
|
Let's start a new thread on this topic of organization since we kind of hit on it during Jess's questions about keeping grocery bills to a minimum.
How do you keep organized? Let's share some ideas and pics if you have them! With our busy lives and working and trying to juggle our kids, husbands and pets, it can get frustrating trying to get the house clean and keep expenses to a minimum. Organization is the only thing that keeps me from spending a crazy amount at the store. I keep all my extras in certain areas and everything in a certain spot IN that area so that I can look at a glance and know what I need. Also, I keep a pen and note pad on the fridge and keep a running list of things I need at the store. On Fridays, I plan what I need by figuring out my meals in advance for the week and looking at BOGO sales, and then go to the store. I typically only buy what is on my list. This helps drastically. Here are a few pics that show the things that I do at home that help me.: My pantry: ![]() Starting from the top... 1st (top) shelf: Which contains all the chips and 'sweet' items, as well as baking supplies and extra papertowels. As you can see, I've even added a few extra free standing shelves up there to help utilize the veritical space up there since it was so tall to the ceiling ![]() 2nd shelf: Which contains my pasta/rice containers, bread that I contain in a basket and even open chips, which are stored in the rectangle tupperware bins. everything gets labeled. ![]() 3rd Shelf: Which contains pasta and rice mixes (like lipton packets, etc), soup mixes (like onion or cooking mixes), crackers, peanut butter, mac n cheese boxes, shake and bake, items of the sort. ![]() 4th Shelf: Which contains cereal and Austin's food. ![]() 5th Shelf: Which contains Jello and any canned baking items on the left, pasta sauces and pizza sauces next to that, then extra fridge items found during BOGO sales (whether it's salad dressing or Mayo), canned items like mamwich/spagh. o's come next, then canned veggies, and lastly, the canned fruit, canned soups and cream of whatever soups. ![]() The floor: Which contains sodas, gateraid (that I keep on hand in case someone gets sick and needs it), large bottles (ie: ketchup), bags of potatos, and then I have a box that I store all of my extra ziplock bag boxes in, my trash bag box, my paper plates, and napkins. ![]() Dish towel drawer: In the kitchen I roll my dish towels and put them in the drawer next to the stove so that they are easier to access and also store nicely. I found that I could fit more in the drawer if I rolled them like this. I fold them in half length wise and then roll them up. ![]() Cooking utensils and measuring items: I store these in a drawer with extra little baskets to contain everything. I'm a basket organizing freak. ![]() ![]() Regular eating utensils: I use an expandable utensil container that will fit any size med-extra large drawer. ![]() Medicine cabinet: My cabinet in the kitchen next to the fridge I use as a medicine cabinet. The top two shelves have baskets that contain certin kinds of meds in each so that I can easily pull them out and look through them. The kids medicine is stored with their items, cups, plates and such in a different cabinet so that they can't reach it. This cabinet also is my junk cabinet. ![]() My pantry and coat closet downstairs in the kitchen are both locked with latches to keep wandering little hands out. ![]() I had some more pics that I took last night, but, I must not had uploaded them. I will show you my drawers in the coat closet that have all my misc. utensils for cooking and such as well as the inside of the door and how I have a shelf organizer hanging there for misc. items like pens, stapler, tape, etc. I hope some of this helps. Please share...what do YOU do to keep it all together and stay sane?! |
