Goodbye to a wonderful Man
Well the time came yesterday around 1pm. My uncle has finally gone to be with the Lord. He did go very peacefully or so it seemed. He just closed his eyes and he was gone.
I hope no one thinks i am crazy for saying this but i am so glad. He looked so peaceful, i was crying but i was so happy.
My DD was very upset but she then put a picture in her mind of her great uncle butchie sitting in a cloud bench with his favorite cowboy boots one laid back watching us.
Another great thing that no one had told me was that he was an organ donor. So many lives will be saved through him and that makes me proud. i copied his obituary to the bottom of this post if anyone would like to read it. Thank you all for you prayers...Each and everyone was felt.
Hampton, VA
Marc Malvin “Butch” Smith (55) born October, 14, 1952 in Spokane, WA, went to be with the Lord on June 16, 2008 after his long battle with cancer. Butch was a veteran of the United State Navy and served in the Vietnam War. For the past 15 years he resided in Chambersburg, PA, where he was known for his big heart and gift for giving.
Butch was preceded in death by his father, Cecil Elton Smith. He is survived by his mother, Althea Rose Smith, two sisters, Sheila A. Smith of Hampton, VA, Wanda L. Richardson and husband Wayne of Surry, VA, brother Charles R Smith and wife Debbie of Hampton, VA, 4 nephews, Jerry & Terry Little, John Williams and Cole Smith, niece Amy Porter, 3 great nieces Megan, Megan W. & Briaunna and great nephew Shannon.
The family would like to give special thanks to Chris Fuller for her love and compassion through out his battle and also to the staff at the VA Palliative Care Unit in Hampton, VA for their care during his short stay with them.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Caner Society. Funeral arrangements have been made through the R. Haden Smith Funeral home.

You are not at all crazy for being glad that his painful battle is over. He is in a better place on that cloud bench with his cowboy boots on Celebrate his life and be at peace knowing his pain has ended. Good for him for being a donor! What an awesome gift!

You are not crazy. I remember my last visit to my grandfather in the VA home and I wondered what we were accomplishing by keeping him alive in a semi-vegetative state for years before he died. Even though he is in a better place now, that doesn't mean it doesn't hurt to lose him. That's great that he was an organ donor. Hopefully he is able to help several people with that gift.
