UGh, My poor boy.. He feels better,he plays a little and no more fever but he still will not eat. I have tried everything. I know he is well hydrated, but he will only drink Diet Coke. We have been giving him little bits of carnation instant breakfast or the drinkable yogurt by dropper.I know that its just a waiting game before his mouth heals and then he will be eating. So how long can he go with out eating before he would need IV nutrients?
"Mom, put Ty back in your belly ~ he keeps touching my toys"
I was told 1 tsp. of fluid per hour is enough to keep IVs away. I am glad he is feeling better and will probably be eating and drinking more soon. Will he eat ice cream? I know you said he holds popsicles but doesn't eat, maybe an ice cream float? Hope he feels better soon and starts eating.
I think fluids are more important. The thing you should be more worried about is dehydration. Have you tried Gatorade, Powerade, or Pedialyte? I think any kind of fluide would be fine though.
I believe you can go 2 weeks with no food and only water. And adult can even go 3 weeks to a month. As long as he is well hydrated and you can get something with calories into him (even if it's not the best nutritionally, if it has calories, it's good in this situation) and he's getting better, don't worry about it. Now if he is still not eating anything a week from now, then I would worry. I'm glad he is starting to get better. I hope is all better soon.
Thank you Jessica, He is much much better. I was on the phone with his Dr. when he picked up a cookie and ate it. lol. the little stinker. I finally found out what he has was strep, and stomatitis. I hope to never see the likes of that crap again!
