I had been doing so good with my running. I was doing 3 miles without stopping and my times were getting better. Saturday I decided to run on our road since the 5K is coming up. I did okay but there are some hills and it caused me to slow down. I had expected that. What I didn't expect was that it would trash my knees so that I can't run, not at all! I take 4 or 5 steps and the pain is so bad that I have to stop and just walk. I am so frustrated!! I had thought that I would start training for a half marathon. Now, all I can do is walk and I don't think they allow you to do that in a HM.

WOW, that sucks, I am so sorry that you are having so much pain. What kind of shoes are you wearing and have you ever thought of wearing knee supports? I wonder if you are compensating in some way when you run on the road-like if it is harder maybe you are doing something different, turning your foot out or something. Have you tried getting hooked up with a running team that trains for half and full marathons? They may be able to give you some tips or suggestions. I think road runner sports and maybe eastern Mountain sports also does a running analysis to see what your stepping pattern is or how to improve your overall gait. Maybe something like that would help you.
Sorry for your pain and your disappointment that really sucks, I hope you can get back on track without completely trashing your body!
Giving away FREE crotch extenders -- do I have any takers??
Oh no and the run is only a week away! I was also going to suggest knee supports, but you certainly don't want to cause more damage if you need time to heal.
I do wear good shoes, New Balance. I just bought them V-day.
I posted in my runners group and they suggested an exam with a sports medicine doctor. I have talked to Jeremy and he agrees.
I should have mentioned that my knees have always been a problem. When I was in high school I was sent to a specialist and the only thing I remember him saying was that I would need knee replacement surgery in my 40's. For some reason that is all I heard.

Yep - DB's knees are falling apart too. Thanks to lots of sports injuries in his teens and early 20s.
