Since it's a directly inherited trait, yes... one of my parents has it. Though, I don't know which one. I would be willing to bet every dollar in the US that it's my mother. Now, if I can only convince her to get tested....
She's convinced that since she's not having any more children, there's no reason for her to know whether or not she has this gene. I would think, however, that if one knew that had a gene that's directly associated with a lifelong autoimmune disorder that has been known to KILL people...that she'd want to be proactive in her choices to avoid the specific foods that cause the problems. (Especially when you consider that she's allergic to wheat!)
My uterus is screaming at me to MAKE MORE BABIES!!
Doesn't she have more than just you for a kid? Maybe putting it to her that way, that if she tests maybe then your siblings may get tested too, that it can help them out... maybe hitting her from the maternal side can get her in there? If anyone can figure a way to convince her, you can!
Sorry you have a life long life threatening illness. Are your kids at least only hit with one of those or none?
My sister has the CLASSIC symptoms of Celiac, but she outright refuses testing.
The thing is... Celiac is TOTALLY manageable, simply by avoiding the offending foods. It's not like it requires medication, therapy, or anything else. You just have to watch what you eat, more than normal people. I really think my mom would rather have something "deadly" in the sense that she could take a pill and be better. Dietary adjustment is difficult... taking medication is easy.
