Can babies be fine with one kind of formula, and then develop an allergy over night? We switched to Gentlease, and everything was great. Now all of a sudden, he is really gassy, spitting up, and I think there is some mucus in his poop. DH thinks I'm over reacting, but I don't want the kid to suffer.

Thanks for your help.

Oh, by the way, he snores and sounds congested...Dr keeps telling me it's his body trying to work out the mucus from birth....would that still be the case?

Maybe he has a little cold causing the mucous? Does he have a diaper rash too? You wouldn't think the formula would cause that kind of change unless he has developed an allergy. Sometimes it takes the body a while to mount a defense against what it perceives (sp?) to be an allergen. That might be the case here. Call the dr and ask them to be sure. Let us know what they say.

If he's also got a diaper rash, it sounds like an allergy. I have a friend who's son had what you describe plus the rash and he is allergic to eggs (even stuff baked with eggs in). Definately check with the dr.

Donna,
After all the symptoms happened with your DC, what did you do? It sounds like what Michael has...Everyone said he was absolutly miserable all day. He wouldn't sleep, and he went through 7 different outfits today, due to all the spit up. Some of it has been projectile. I gave him some gas drops, and it let him sleep for like 10 minutes..that was it all day. I have noticed some mucus in his poop. Maybe i need to switch formulas again? (I have 2 24oz cans of Gentlease that I haven't even opened yet...) I will definatly call the Dr to check, since i reallydon't want him to go through the weekend like this. DH just fed him, and I can hear him crying. He also started refuseing the bottle today my MIL said, that it used to calm him down. I don't know what to do any more...poor guy...

The Dr. had given me a can of that stuff a long time ago too. I never used it, because I thaught it was to expensive, and that it was reflux. He has been on Gentlease for about 2-3 weeks now, and he's about the same as he was before we started the new formula. Maybe I will switch him over too. He did better with the RTF, since it was thicker, but the Gentlease only comes in powder. I actually have a can of RTF Nutra whatever in the cabnit. Think I should make that instead of the Gentlease this time around? Too late, I just ran to the kitchen, and DH made 1 Qt of the gentlease..I will be calling the Dr in the morning though..the diaper rash is getting worse...I just hate seeing the kid suffer. DH thinks I am over reacting, and that he is just having a bad day. I don't know, it seems like a bad week to me. I'll call the Dr. Now i'm starting to 2nd guess myself...am I over reacting?

I spoke to the nurse at my peds office today. She said it sounds like a lactose allergy. SHe told me all thoes things were not normal that I described. Now what do I do...my dh are fighting about this. They want me to change him to LactoFree formula, which is fine with me (dh is having a cow) I want to do it now, since the poor kid is miserable. (Dh sees it as common baby fussiness, and he dosen't think the spit up is that bad) He made a qt of the Gentlease last night, and he wants to give ds the rest of it..he dosne't want to waste it. Ok, I understand not wanting to waste, but the kid is miserable! Do I pour it out and get the new formula, or do I continue to make the kid miserable and give him the qt that is made (I have 2 24oz cans, and 1/2 of an open 24 oz can as well of gentlease)

DH thinks I'm over reacting, and that I should stay with the gentlease...he dosen't think anything is wrong at all...hello?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
I just don't know what to do to make everyone happy.....
