It's official, I'm a post whore!!

I've been giving Brody cereal for a while now and it's been going pretty well.. So I started sweet potatoes a couple of nights ago and he LOVED them... I even put a little in his cereal and he gobbled it up... Now, he hasn't pooped and this is his third day... I have heard that solids can cause constipation but what do I do? Do I stop feeding him the solids for a little while? If I do that, won't that just be a temporary fix until we start them back again? He usually goes once or twice a day and now nothing for the past three days and I pulled him into bed with me this morning because I could tell he was uncomforatable.. he was squriming a lot and making noises of discomfort.. poor baby... I'd appreciate some advice/help

I love my boys!!

We are having the SAME EXACT issue. I didn't do cereal because it made blood in the stool for him. The oranges seemed to be constipating. Try a little juice...apple, or prune. My ped recommends Juicy Juice white grape, she said for her kids it worked better than the apple. You can try a warm bath, or the rectal thermometor with a little vasiline.
I know how miserable it can be, go through it too! I started giving him some pureed avacado a couple times a week, and that seems to make him go. |

Shannon did the same thing and the Dr. recommened giving him an once of water with a 1/2 tablespoon of Kayro Syrup in it. You can also mix it with his food if he doesnt like the water. I took about a day but he finally went and we have not had any problem since.
Warning: we he does finally go it will have a putrid sweet smell to it... nothings wrong its just the sweetness of the syrup. |

Giving away FREE crotch extenders -- do I have any takers??

I was going to suggest less cereal and more fruit (either a little juice or puree) apple, grape or prune. Karo in water is an old trick that isn't used much anymore, but it works. If you have some at home give it a try if the juice or fruit doesn't work. Just put a tsp in a couple ounces or water.

I'm a little more conservative when it comes to giving baby's solids and juice. IMHO Since it's just been 3 days, maybe hold off on any solids and just nurse him and see if that helps. If there hasn't been any movement in a day or two then go with some juice or something.

Because I said so, that's why!

If bananas were not known for being constipating, I would suggest that.
Avacado is considered a good first food. And you can buy one and just mash it up yourself. He's still pretty young though, so holding off on solids for a few days and just nursing would probably work pretty well too. As BM is a good laxative. ![]() You could also try rubbing his tummy in clockwise circles, this is suppose to help. Just don't do it in the other direction, as that can cause the opposite problem. You can also try bicycling his legs, that helps some too. |
