What cereal did everyone start with? We have poop problems to begin with, so i'm hesitant on rice...is it safe to start with something else?

LLL suggest trying ripe avocados, bananas, and cooked sweet potatoes (all mashed) as first foods. They all have MUCH MORE nutritional value than cereal. The only cereal Liriel ever got was Oatmeal. I bought 1 box for Daycare to supplement my EBM at 5.5 months of age. Otherwise she pretty much ate table food. A few containers of baby food were purchased, but few were used.

We didn't "start" with cereal. We followed
Dr. Sears recommendations and started with bananas, before anything else.
Which foods are best to begin with?
Begin with foods that are not likely to cause allergies and that are most like the milk baby is used to. If your baby is used to the sweet taste of human milk, start with mashed bananas. If baby is used to the more bland flavor of formula, try rice cereal mixed with formula (or with your milk if your breastfed baby prefers rice cereal to bananas). Rice is the most intestinal-friendly grain because it is gluten-free, low in protein, and high in carbohydrates. It has a nutritional profile more like a fruit than a grain. Mix the cereal to a soupy consistency and lessen the amount on milk or formula you add as baby gets better at eating.

I would hold off of cereal. Knowing that he has had some sensitivty issues, it would make me a little scared.
I waited to give Sarah any solids till she was 6 months.

I think Oatmeal would be fine. We didn't do cereal for Addie until 6 months, but Carter got it around 4-5 months.
I didn't realize that rice can cause constipation. Poor Addie is constipated a lot, maybe that's the reason?

We skipped cereal. Also, the AAP recommends waiting until 6 months to start solids, and my ped recommends longer for children with allergies and sensitivity. I know a lady who's baby is almost one and her GI specialist still won't let baby start solids because everytime they start, she reacts horribly. Plus, the longer you hold off, the less likely they are to have food allergies.
