It's recommended to wait until they are 6 months old. Until then they should only receive breast milk or formula.

Some have added cereal younger to help with reflux issues. I started Liriel on Oatmeal cereal at about 5.5 months for a meal at DC because I wasn't pumping quite enough for her and she had to have some thing.

Cereal as a first food is really old school. There is NO nutritional reason to give them cereal first. LLL actually recommends bananas, mashed sweet potatoes and ripe avocados as first foods.

Is he showing any signs of readiness for solids? Some start to show interest at 4-5 months.

thanks for the article! I think i'm going to wait until next month at our 4 month apt to ask then......i don't want him to start solids, and he's not ready....

I agree. We started because the doc told us to. Apparently, Austin was ready. Mommy however, was NOT ready. If he was sleeping through the night and then started waking up or is drinking over 40 oz, it may be time to introduce him. I would talk to your doc about it.
