Default Picky eater.... help!

Okay, the last few weeks, Austin has gotten where he's very picky about what he eats. We've done a combination for while now of organic baby food and table food. At our 12 month check up, the doc. said we could start weaning him from his baby food and do all table food. Problem is, he won't hardly eat anything. He's even gotten picky sometimes where his baby food is concerned. I have noticed ever since his surgery, he wants to nurse more and at times, more frequently, which I don't mind, but I wonder if he's just filling up on moms milk. Any suggestions on what to feed him??? I feel like I'm running out of options. He loves mashed potatos and he likes rice. Sometimes he'll eat something, only to later push it away, gag, or just spit it out. I feel like I'm at a loss.

At 12 months my DD still received most of her nutrition via BM. She got solids at DC, but didn't eat much at home. I would just keep offering him food and then look at what he is eating over 1 weeks time vs 1 day. If he is getting a variety of foods over a weeks time, then don't worry about it. As long as he is growing well and healthy - he is probably just fine.

Also consider the stratagy of letting him eat off your plate if he won't eat off his own. What's on another's plate is always much tastier than your own.

We went through the same with Lauryn. Sadly it hasn't gotten better. I would throw a little of what we were eating in the blender and gave it to her. Sometimes she would eat it and sometimes not. Then she went through the phase where she would only eat out of a yogurt container, so we kept one and reused it putting everything in there She's since gotten smart though and doesn't fall for that. We do a lot of grilled cheese and green beans. I don't think a huge variety is a big deal right now, but keep offering what you guys are eating. It's great that he still gets BM. WTG!!

Thanks for the suggestions. We've been feeding him off our plates for a while, he's just gotten so picky lately. It seems ever since he turned a year old, he's gotten so picky about what he will eat. You should see the variety of stuff I've sent to DC. He loves yogurt, so he has the YoBaby Yogurt with cereal and fruit for breakfast. Its lunch and dinner we have fun with. My daddy keeps telling me, when he gets hungry enough he'll eat. I guess that's true. Then again, he makes up for it I think with his nursing.

I agree with the girls. It can take up to 15 times for a child to accept something new when you introduce it. I'm still working on Katelynn at eating her broccoli and she's 11!

Take it one day at a time. I think it's fantastic that he's still BFing. WTG!

The fact he is still nursing is good for a picky eater - it means he's getting all the variety of nutrients he needs. At my DD's 2-year well child check up - just knowing I was still nursing - her Doctor said she was already eating better than most children her age. Just keep offering him different foods to eat. Some days my DD will eat a food and love it, then the next day she will refuse it.
