Interesting bit of food theory I found.
---------------------------- Worried that serving fish may be raising your kids' risk of mercury poisoning? Start pairing fish dishes with a side of pineapple. Serving certain fruits with fish could help reduce your family's exposure to mercury, a toxic metal that some fish accumulate from the environment. A recent study of women living in a fish-eating community revealed that those who also ate the most tropical fruits had the lowest mercury levels. |

Swordfish. Also a lot of the fish from local water supplies should be limited. On the one hand fish is a VERY healthy protien source. On the other hand we pollute our environment and it shows up in our water supplies, and hence our fish. IF you eat local fish, you may be able to check out a state website with information on fish safty. But you can ussually still have 1-2 servings per week pretty safely in most cases. The younger the child, the more imporant this issue is.
Fish consumption and mercury is a big deal while pregnant now days. |
