Claire loves cheese slices, grilled cheese, puffs and cheerios. I think she just really likes feeding herself. I've had a hard time w/the jarred baby food. Sometimes she will finish 1 jar of stage 1 or a jar of stage one and rice or oatmeal, but sometimes she jsut takes a few spoonfuls. She'll still open her mouth for more, but she WHINES. I couldn't figure out what was going on. I guess I didn't think I should move her to stage 2 or 3 until she was finishing more of the stage 1s...but then I posted on FF and realized that she might be wanting something with more TEXTURE (not sure why I didn;t come up w/that on my own
it's just that the stage 2s and 3s looked too big. Well...I tried a stage 2 with her tonight. She took a few spoonfuls and then the whining started...so I opened one of the stage 3 jars. She hardly whined at all....ate about 1/2 the jar and then turned her head away. Maybe the problem was that she wanted more texture and I didn't realize it (but still...she only ate 1/2 a jar...why don;t they make the stage 2s and 3s in smaller containers? or maybe she's taking in too much formula? (she takes 4 bottles a day - 6 to 8 oz. in each) |

Working Hard Keeping the Hussy's In Line

I *think* (and some of the others girls may need to answer this), but, I think it's 2oz - 3oz for every pound the baby weighs. So if she weighs 10 pounds, she should be drinking 20 -30oz per day. Usually the rule is more than 20, but NO MORE THAN 32.
HTH and that I was right! ![]() |

Yes... I'm an arcade addict!!

Maybe she doesn't like the baby food. If she is content with finger foods, just feed her those unless you aren't comfortable with that.
A lot of times Carter just eats 3/4 of a stage 3 jar and we save the rest for lunch or dinner. |

Belinda - I think you're right. I remember working out that if she had 4 bottles of 8 oz. each, that would be 32 oz. for the day, and she usually doesn't drink that much. And I guess that up to a year, it's the formula or BM that's the most important....so as long as she's taking 32 oz. or less of formula it probably doesn't matter how many solids she is taking, right (???) as long as she's taking some for "practice" ?

Picture perfect everytime

Sounds to me like she might be done with jarred food. How about just feeding her table food? I think the amount of formula she is getting is perfect! Most of her calories should still be coming from formula anyway.

Is it OK to just give her foods that she can pick up? or does she need to be practicing eating off of a spoon as well? If she's just eating foods she can pick up, it's things like cheerios, puffs, cheese (maybe I could add pasta to that) but then she's not getting any fruits or vegetables (apart from a little bit of juice - she drinks 2-4 oz. a day).

I love my boys!!

I was just going to post something similar!! We are kinda having the same issue...he used to eat stage 3's, and now tonight he didnt want anything to do with it....i gave him a hot dog, baked beans, and carrots, and he was as happy as can be. Do they need baby food at this stage of the game?
Maybe she is teething....sometimes if his gums are really bothering him, he won't take anything off a spoon...i think i hit his bottom gums with it when it goes in his mouth ![]() |

So there you have it..... I'm crazy!!

You can still give her fruits and veggies and not use the jared food. Ethan LOVES the real fruits and veggies. I just cut them up in smaller pieces like I do with all his table food and he does great. It could just be she doesn't like the jared food. I couldn't blame her if she didn't!
Ethan shakes his head NO back and forth if he even seen us getting a jar of food - he wanted the real thing! ![]() |

Giving away FREE crotch extenders -- do I have any takers??

We have the same issues. She did the same thing with jar food and would spit out the stage3 food. I then went to table food and she ate what I ate. Then she didn't want that and we went back to jar food. she usually eats the 1st couple of bites very well, then turns her head and purses her lips. sometimes it's because she's thirsty and I give her a sip of water but that isn't always the case. She's so unpredictable and it's driving me crazy! try a little water after a few bites and see if that's the issue and also try more table food.

That's a good idea. Thanks! I guess it's like the sippy cup....she just played around with it or ignored it but then one day she started drinking from it. |
