I love my boys!!

OK, i'm starting to think that I am not feeding Michael enough. Every time i take him to the Dr., they tell me I need to feed him more....he's in the 30% for his weight(it might be lower) and the Dr keeps asking me if he's spititng up a ton, since he's really not gaining like he should. I can only give the kiddo as much as he will take....he gets 3 meals, at least 2 snacks, and some of our dinner...tonight i even gave him 2 oz of fruit, and 2 oz of veggie while we ate, and he gobbled that up...then i gave him his normal dinner, (4 oz jar of fruit, 4 oz jar of a meat dinner) and he ate all that, so o broke out the toddler ravioli, and he ate a bunch of that...he was rubbing his eyes really hard, so i put him in the bath....then he was really gassy, and i can't figure out why. He never turns down food, and he loves his puffs....
I have an issue with giving him a lot of stuff since he's chokeing on a lot...even if he gets too much in his mouth he gags....(while he's feeding himself if he gets too much) I just don't know what else to do....he loves table food, and i let him try everything i have.....he has a really hard time making his mouth, the stuff always ends up on the floor |

I have read that children should be getting more BM or formula then foods at this age. The babies who start eating too young or are replacing a bottle of formula with foods are usually the ones who don't gain like they should. Are you giving him more formula like your Pedi suggested last time?

I was going to say the same thing as Amanda. Right now, table food isn't necessary - and isn't nearly as important as bm/formula.
This might sound annoying...but, make sure that Michael has his morning bottle before you eat anything. Perhaps, if he sees you eating, he knows he's going to get some of what you have...and thus won't take his full bottle. BM/Formula should ALWAYS be offered before solid foods, to assure that baby is getting enough nutrition. And, when you feed him table foods, make sure to put VERY LITTLE on his tray. If he has too much to chose from, it could overwhelm him. Ian only gets tiny pieces, and only one or two at a time, of whatever it is that we are sharing with him. That way, he can feed himself, but we make sure he's not going to put more in his mouth than he can handle, and then he won't choke as often/as much. |
