It's free and you should be able to open all but the newest Office Documents. Or so I've been told.

I have 2 projects I was working on when it crashed. I have things I need to get done only in Excell. A friend has the disks, but when I went to pick it up, she couldn't find them

Have you tried open office? It wouldn't hurt to try it, it just might work.

And if you already have files from another office package - OpenOffice.org 2 will probably read them with no difficulty.

I agree open office is great to use until you get Excel again...it will open excel files and you can still save things in .xls format so when you get excel again you can still use those spreadsheets.
