Guys, I have been feeling lost lately. I am a SAHM and I LOVE it but I feel useless. I have few hobbies but they are extremely pricey. I don't know what to do. I feel as if I have no real purpose besides being a mom. I LOVE being a mom and wouldn't give it up for the world but I feel as if I need something else.

If you wanted to do something once a week, once every other week, or once a month by yourself, or with other girls, what would it be?

What are your hobbies and talents?

Once upon a time - before I gave birth - I would do cross stitch, sewing, painted metal miniatures, played computer games, and worked on improving my house. Now I have no time for any of that. Though I do still read stuff.

Things I would like to do if I did not have to work. I would consider getting more involved in the preschool I still hope to send my DD to this fall. Possibly a part time position at a local library - one could always volunteer there as well. Exercise - try to get into a group with other mothers for this if possible. Depending on finances, I would look for a volunteer or part time position somewhere that had something interesting to do. Or for a cause I believed in. I would look to join some Mom/parent groups or play dates so I could converse with other adults. I've discovered this isn't an option for full-time working mothers.

If money wasn't an issue - I would go back to school.

Right now I'm looking at being unemployed in 3 weeks - so I might get to do some of these things as I continue to seek gainful employment. Unemployment is NOT going to pay the bills. But then again, neither are 99% of the jobs out there. Sigh...........

I've found a new love for gardening. I get excited about growing my own food and the kids like it too. If I had the time, I would sew clothes for Lauryn (dresses and tops), and I would read. I would love to volunteer for an organization that plants trees in urban communities or be part of a community garden. Years ago I had aspirations of building the doll house of my dreams. I still have the furniture in boxes, but the unfinshed house went into a dumpster before one of our many moves. Good luck finding a hobby that interests you and that isn't cost prohibitive.

What about MOPS (Mothers Of Preschoolers)? This will be my 3rd year in it and I love it!! Most groups meet 2 times a month. The kids go to a program called MOPPETS. All of the people that work in MOPPETS have a background check done so you know who is working with your kids.

Check to see if there is a group in your area.

I wanted to add that most MOPS groups will be having a MOPS at the Park day coming up very soon. Ours is the 27th of this month. It would be a good chance for you to meet most of the moms in the group before you decide what you think.

I am a cross stitcher and crafter of any kind. LOVE IT. My garden is continuous not a once in a while thing. I am getting ready to work on Tierney's Christmas stocking. I went to MOPS, it was fun, but WAY out of the way for me. We now do a weekly mom's coffee with a bunch of ladies from church.

I really think this is where Pampered Chef has allowed me to feel independent and a financial provider for my family. So that is what I do a night or two a week.

I here ya!! Even with me working part time I feel like I am missing something. I really want to go back to school and get my RN.. Reading is what I love to do for myself.. I try to get away once a month to go to Barns and Noble to get a book and a coffee to recharge.. That helps some.. I used to scrapbook ALOT but with Tyler into everything and not napping I dont have time.. And there is no way I can do it when kids go to bed...

I scrapbook, rubber stamp, make homemade candles and soap in my spare time or recently lack thereof. What I really would like to do most nights is just lay in bed with a nice bottle...i mean glass of wine and read a book.

I just got a discounted membership at the Y, and the kids did good in the FREE childcare. I'm going to start going to a few exercise classes a week...that might help me get out.

I've also become very active in our LLL.
