Our home study visit was this morning and it went great - we are now all done and approved!
The kids got tired and cranky toward the end but they were really well-behaved and NICE to her! They loved giving her a tour of the house and showing all of their favorite toys Our social worker had no problem with the ages of our kids - she was one of 5 born in 6 years so our family was like going home to her The best/most amazing part is that she will have our report written and complete by NEXT FRIDAY!! She already got back our CPS clearances and Matt's criminal clearance and hopefully mine is in the mail. They only took THREE DAYS to get them back to her - usually they take over a month. She included a letter explaining Emerson's situation so I guess that did the trick. This is moving faster than we even hoped! We can't travel in early September because Matt has his Masters exams so if USCIS is just as fast with their approval we might end up sitting on our hands for a few weeks to make sure we don't submit our dossier to early! We're compiling that now and will be getting into the busy work of notaries/county certificates/state apostilles soon. We'll have to take a day trip to Albany for all the apostilling - 2 1/2 hour drive, fun fun! So happy to have this part done! |

I'm glad things are working out for you.
So have you talked to any doctors about the surgery yet? And how quickly they can take a look at her when you do get her? I would assume this is critical and will need to be taken care of ASAP when she arrives in your home? |

There is a Ronald McDonald house nearby we will use and we're trying to get free flights for me and her through Northwest KidCares program. The woman who told us about this flew there on Monday, her son had the surgery on Tuesday, he was up and playing on Wednesday and they flew back home on Friday! They can't tell us much until we get her medical records, and we'll be using a local pediatric cardiologist to handle all the initial testing - basically the first week home she'll have to have an echocardiogram, etc. |

Would be a nice bonus to have such a small scar on her chest. My sister's scar from open heart surgery in her fist few months of life is huge now. (She had a heart valve that did not close on it's own like it normally would - she was 3 months premature.) But when they are so tiny - there isn't a lot to work with.
So do they have someone to translate her medical records? I assume they are not in English? Or do you have to get that done on your own? I do know from things I've read about foreign adoptions that you want to get the child a full physical ASAP, because kids from orphanages often have problems you did not get told about. |
