Working Hard Keeping the Hussy's In Line
|
Ok, lets try this once again. I'm going to **try** to hit David up for a new camera again this year when we get tax $$$ back. I know he's going to fight me on it, but, I need to convence him on the advantage of upgrading. So, I need some suggestions.
What would everyone recommend? Keep in mind, I want a few basic lenses and a nice but, not extravagent camera. I really don't want to spend more than $1000. Anything relatively nice for $600 -$800 would be best. (I know, I'm asking the impossible! ) Any suggestions on cameras or packages? As a recap - my old camera is a Sony 5.0 Mavica. I've never had a true 'digital' camera. Since mine is one that writes directly onto a mini disk. So, I need the scoop on the memory sticks and which is best to get, etc. as well. TIA! |

I got the best Christmas present this year!

FOr what you want I would get a Cannon Rebel XTi. It is the highest amature camera out there. Once you get into the D's. they are professional and more expensive (I THINK).
Plus you can get decent lens not to expensive like the f1.8 50 mm - about $50 or less (if my memory serves me correct). |

Future Iron Chef....

I have a Nikon D40. And, I
it. LOL!Nikon just came out with the D60 - so the D40's should be dropping in price in the near future. I purchased the camera body with kit lens, for $500.00. (newegg.com) The kit lens is the only one I have for the time being, but until I learn wtf I'm doing, it's all I need. I have, however, upgraded my flash. It comes with one, but my house isn't great for natural light, so I needed a bouncing flash. Here's Nikon's product page.... Nikon D40 It has great reviews - and is one of the best "entry level" DSLR's on the market. You need to have SD flash memory, but that's pretty inexpensive. I got a 2 G card for about $20.00 and I can't even come close to filling it before I "dump" my images onto my computer. Neweggs Product Page |

I guess im the rebel here I went with a Fuji Finepix S9100. It went for about $600 but they are coming out with a new model and you can find em cheaper than that. I got mine through Beach Camera.

I don't think that's a DLSR - is it?
Then there is the question.... BEL - are you looking for a dslr or just a standard point and shoot digital?? As far as point and shoots, I have a Casio Exilim and it's very small, very compact, and takes very clear photos. =) I have a Fuji Finepix, and the one I have (took from my father's apartment) isn't a dslr. But, it's also very old... it's like a 2.0 megapixel. =) |

Picture perfect everytime

Yup...depends on what you want. Point and shoot or a DSLR. Basic differences are one has a fixed lens that zooms with limited control of aperature, shutterspeeds, and ISO but is easy to operate and small. The other is a little more complicated, with ability to control ss, ISO and aperature, ability to vary lenses, and is a little larger (but really, they are pretty compact now.)
I would go for a DSLR hands down. You can set it to auto, put the lens on it you want and set it to auto. It works just like a point and shoot. If you want to zoom with it, put a zoom lens on it. There are just so many more possibilities than with a P&S. Or better yet, get both, a little P&S for your purse and DSLR for the other! Yeah, my DH didn't go for that either.I like Canon so I would say a Rebel XT or Rebel XTi. I have heard that the Nikon D50's have great color and are favored over the d70. 'course, never used one so don't take that from me. You can easily get one of those and a couple of lenses for under $1000. If you go with a point and shoot I really liked my fuji...it had great color! Good luck with your decision..let us know what you get! Suzanne |
