Yup...looking for a dslr. Everyone I've talked to so far has recommended the Canon Rebel XTi over the Nikon.

I think I've gotten DH to agree!!! He must be in a really good mood, because he asked me if I wanted something nicer, or if that was the one that I wanted. WHOOO HOOOOOOO!

I chose the Nikon because 2 of my "professional" photog friends recommended IT over the Canon. LOL!! I have a Canon AE-1 Program SLR and lenses, and I could have interchanged the lenses. But, based on reviews and their professional opinions, I went with the Nikon, knowing I'd have to invest in new lenses. Sounds silly, I feel like I need to "defend" my camera. I always wonder if those who recommend one over the other have actually USED the other... and if not, where does the recommendation come from. (totally just curious...and not trying to sound like a jerk, at all!!!!) My curiosity comes from recently reading something where a bunch of folks "bashed" the D40... but someone asked later in the thread how many had ever USED one.... and none of them had. Why bash if you have no experience? ( I know, no one here is bashing Nikon... )

Either way... you'll have a blast with a DSLR!!!!! =)

I agree with Kris...I certainly hope I didn't come across as "bashing" Nikon.

I did alot of reading and comparison before I bought my camera. Bottom line was when I went to the store and held both my rebel XT and the Nikon D50 and played with the buttons, the Rebel just fit me. The basic difference between Nikons and Canons (IMO and from the research I did) are color and grain. Canons get less grain at higher ISO's than Nikons and Nikons have better color than Canons. Generally speaking anyway. However the new upgrades to both these models (Canon 5d and the Nikon D300) are both pretty sweet. Most reviews say the D300 handles noise really, really well at high ISO's and the Canon 5d gives nice clarity and color. So again, it just comes down to personal preference and your style of shooting.

Again, I hope I didn't offend, it truely is an individual decision.

Sorry - I was certainly not trying to down the Nikon AT ALL...my plans were to go and get a feel for both and THEN make my final decision. I didn't mean to make you defend it Kris. They are both great cameras so I've heard. Most everyone I asked who had recommended the Canon recommended it for personal preference - although there was 1 or 2 who recommended the Nikon over the Canon.

We shall see. I appreciate all of your information though, that will definitely help me when making my decision.

I know it was silly of me to get upset, but as I said... it was on the heels of reading that ridiculous website. Actually, I found it difficult to believe that they were ADULTS posting in response to the question. I'm guessing it was a bunch of kids who haven't a clue wth they are talking about. =)
