any suggestions? I really just want something better than what my camera has built in. Something with a range of 30 to 40 feet? is that feasible?

A 430ex flash will give you plenty of light I would think. It's nice because you can redirect the flash and bounce it off things (like the ceiling) to get a softer lighting effects. I have a 420 (which is the older, smaller version of the 430 and it is plenty for me!)

Jillian I have the 430ex Speed light and it does do a world of good. It is around $280. But you can find it cheaper on Ebay. I am not sure if you are looking for somethign a little smaller and if you go with off brand that will be cheaper.
