This picture is taking inside with 2 kitchen lights on. The flash went off and I was probably 3 ft from Gage. What the heck is up with it being so dark?

What are your settings? Did you shoot this in auto? or in one of the modes (P, AV, TV, etc.) It does seem dark to me as well, and you can tell the flash went off because of the way the light from the flash reflected in his eyes. I would try this. Put it in "P" mode and take a picture (the flash won't pop up in "P" mode unless you tell it too.) Leave it in "P" mode, pop the flash up and take another picture. Is there a difference? Do you know how to change your ISO? In "P" mode you should be able to adjust your ISO. I would set it to about 400 when taking pictures inside while using the flash. Does that make a difference?

Think of ISO as worker bees gathering light in your camera. The lower the number the less worker bees there are gathering light. If you are in a low light situation you want more worker bees gathering light so that you can still have a shutterspeed fast enough to freeze action (less blur that way.) So upping your ISO gathers more light for your sensor to expose an image with the proper shutterspeeds. Does that make sense? ISO is the same digitally as film. When using a film camera you buy diffent speed film (200, 400, etc) depending on the lighting and what you are taking pictures of. The beauty of digital is that you can change those "film" speeds (ISO) anytime you want and really take advantage of each lighting situation.

Essentially though, if you have your camera set on auto (the green square) it should be exposing pictures with a flash better than that ( I would think.) If it doesn't start working better I would take it to wolf and have them look it over.

If I confused you tell me so I can try to word it differently. lol...I kinda confused myself!

Nope you didn't confuse me one bit,

Though you explaining ISO made total sense. More than in class.

I was taking the picture in P and the only thing I changes was the ISO and it was on 200. So I will try it at 400.

I think that may be the problem.

Oh good, I hope it's as easy as that to fix! We need to start some weekly challenges/workshops or something with everyone getting these new cameras. It's alot of fun and so easy to learn that way, I love seeing what everyone comes up with!
