* 2 cups all-purpose flour
* 1/4 teaspoon salt * 1 1/2 cup white sugar * 2 egg * 1 teaspoon vanilla extract * 1 teaspoon cinnamon * 1 teaspoon baking powder * 3/4 cup butter DIRECTIONS 1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). 2. In a medium bowl combine the flour, salt, and baking powder with a wire whisk. In a large mixing bowl cream the butter and sugar with an electric mixer on medium speed. Add the egg and vanilla, and beat until well blended. Scrape down sides of bowl, then add the flour mixture. Blend on low speed just until combined. Do not overmix. 3. Gather dough into a ball. Flatten the ball into a disk and wrap tightly in plastic wrap or a plastic bag. Refrigerate one hour until firmI put mine in the freezer and it is still a little sticky so I roll between wax paper/saran wrap. 4. On a floured surface, roll out dough to a 1/4 inch thickness. With cookie cutters, cut dough into desired shapes and place on ungreased cookie sheets. Decorate with colored sugars or sprinkles. Bake for 13-15 minutes,double check at 10 minutes or before depending on your oven being careful not to brown. Immediately transfer cookies with a spatula to a cool, flat surface. |

I just tried this recipe and it sounded great with the cinnamon and all but they were just SO sticky and even when I added more flour and left them in the freezer for an hour and a half, I couldn't get the cookie up off of the floured wax paper after I rolled them out :( Did I do something wrong? I'm gonna try this recipe from the foodnetwork website.. I just have to go get some more butter
3/4 pound unsalted butter at room temperature 1 cup sugar, plus extra for sprinkling 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract 3 1/2 cups flour 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. In the bowl of an electric mixer with the paddle attachment, cream together the butter and 1 cup of sugar until they are just combined. Add the vanilla. In a medium bowl, sift together the flour and salt; then add them to the butter-and-sugar mixture. Mix on low speed until the dough starts to come together. Dump onto a surface dusted with flour and roll shape into a flat disk. Wrap in plastic and chill for 30 minutes. Roll the dough 1/2-inch thick and cut with a 3-inch heart-shaped cutter. Place the hearts on an ungreased sheet pan and sprinkle with sugar. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, until the edges begin to brown. Allow to cool to room temperature. Note: The edges of the shortbread are ever so slightly sharper if you chill the cookies before baking them. I cut out the cookies days ahead and bake them the day I serve them. |
