Hahaha it's cheating, but the BEST sugar cookie I ever had... my aunt made them and I LOVED THEM and asked her the recipe... and it was betty crocker cookie mix with lemon and orange zest grated in it.
AHAHA! When I was in RI I made some for my coworkers, most of them were culinary students at johnson and wales... and they were like "these are amazing what's your recipe?!!" and I was so ashamed. I told them it was a secret family recipe. They're good though! |

Old-Fashioned Sugar Cookies
From "The Pillsbury Family Cook Book" (c) 1963 3 Cups sifted all purpose flour 1 cup sugar 1-1/2 teaspoons baking powder 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 cup soft butter or margarine 1 egg, slightly beaten 3 tablespoos cream 1 teaspoon vanilla extract oven 400 degrees Yield: 72 to 84 (if you make them really small that is. )Sift flour with sugar, baking powder and salt into mixing bowl. Cut in butter, using an electric mixer or pastry blender, until particles are fine. Add egg, cream and vanilla extract. blend thoroughly. If desired, chill dough for easier handling. roll out on floured surface, one-third at a time, to 1/8-inch thickness. sprinkle with sugar; cut into desired shapes. Place on ungreased cookie sheets. Bake at 400 degrees for 5-8 minutes,until golden. Tip: 1/2 cup shortening may be substituted for 1/2 cup butter. |
