I don't think it is bitter. It uses fake swiss. Like the Kraft pre-packaged slices

Swiss Cheese Fondue
3 Tbs Butter or Marg
3 Tbs Flour
1 ts salt
1/4 ts ground pepper
1/2 tsp galic salt (we use powder and just increase salt)
Dash of nutmeg (i NEVER put in)
3 C Milk
2 8oz packages processed swiss cheese (I use almost 2 16oz packages depending on how thick I want it
2 tsp worcstershire sauce
Dash of tobasco (we use more than a dash, more like a couple of teaspoons)
2 loaves crusty french bread and hotdogs
At serving time: In a fondue pot or electric skillet over medium heat. Melt butter. Stir in flour (Making a rue). Stir in Salt, pepper, Galic salt and nutmeg. Add milk gradually and cook until sauce is smooth and thickened. LOWER HEAT. and add cheese by the slice, stirring until cheese is melted before adding more. Stir in worchestire sauce and tobasco sauce. To eat spear bread or hot dog and dip. Keep hot during serving.
Jillian, we use the recipe (from my grandma) JUST as a base. Then we add more garlic, salt, pepper, and tobasco to our taste otherwise RIch always says that it is to plain. But I LOVE IT!!!.
Hope you enjoy.
