Queen of the arcade... but not for long =)

My BIL is doing some schooling at a meat cutting school (yuck!) and he gave us some bacon that he cut up and seasoned. They gave it to us and it was all already frozen in one big chunk but with the three of us we don't use it that fast. Can I thaw it, separate it into smaller chunks and then refreeze it or is that bad to do?

I heard somewhere that you could freeze it twice raw, then it had to be cooked. For example, a lot of the meat that you buy at the grocery store has been frozen (for transport) then thawed in the fridge cases for purchase. We refreeze that meat most of the time before it's cooked. Maybe someone else knows different, but that's what I remember.

You can probably thaw it and refreeze it, but you will want to use it sooner if you do. Is there anyway to cut it into a few chunks without thawing it out? The other option is to cook it all up and freeze the left overs into appropriate portions. We will cook up bacon and then put it in the freezer to use on top of pizza and other things you would use bacon bits for. So far we haven't gotten sick from that.
Of course, you are suppose to wash all your meat before cooking it and I never do that - so consider that before taking my meat handling advice. ![]() |

That was nice of your BIL to share. I think what the other girls wrote is right. I know over the years I've thawed something and then refroze but I've only done it once and not many times on the meat.
With some nice bacon in the house...I would be feeling the craving of making some pancakes to go along with it. Yum!! ![]() |
