Make sure your finger nails are trimmed down. But other than that, just pop the lips out. It shouldn't be a problem. If it is, their might be other issues that need dealing with. Which is why it's helpful for a knowledgeable person to look at what you are doing and how she is latched on.

Make sure that your nipple is pointed to the top of her mouth and that when you pull her off to re-latch or move her that you break the suction first by inserting your finger b/c that can lead to sore nips. Have you been using lanolin or any other products to help? If colic is the problem, I've heard through the vine that Little Tummies Relief Water works wonders. Luckily, I haven't had to use it (yet!).
