When do BF babies start sleeping through the night? Brody has started to go 4 hour stretches now.. when he was waking up every 2 to 3.. Also, when can I stop waking him up during the day to feed him? Last time I was at the doc, they said to still feed him every 2-3 hours during the day and let him wake me up at night..
Unless he has health issues, I would NOT wake him up to feed him. You certainly don't need to do it at night if he's sleeping OK. If he's sleeping for 4 hour streaches at night - you are lucky. Don't expect him to sleep through the night any time soon unless you are very lucky. Most kids - BM or Formula fed - do not sleep through the night until they are much older.
During the day you DS will figure things out. If he sleeps for a longer streach, he may just nurse longer when he wakes up. OR he will start nursing longer before going to sleep. As long as he is producing enough wet/dirty diapers, is happy, is growing well and you are nursing on demand, I would not worry about making sure you are nursing him every 2-3 hours. Most BF babies will nurse every 1-4 hours at that age (they say 2-4, but mine seemed to nurse every hour certain parts of the day).
I had to wake my child to nurse AT LEAST every 2 hours the first week of her life because she was jaundice and we wanted my milk to coming in ASAP so that it could flush the excess billruben out of her system. But after that - nurse on demand.
Giving away FREE crotch extenders -- do I have any takers??
Thomas slept through the night at 7 weeks, but it wasn't every night. I'm talking about 6 hour stretches not the 8-10 that I was used to pre-children Lauryn was a very different story she was closer to 9 months and even now wakes up at least once or twice every few nights.
One thing I've read says if they stay asleep for at least 5 hours - it's considered "sleeping through the night". Oh for the days of 8 uninterrupted hours of sleep.

Can you imagine, 8 hours of sleep?!?!?!?! Not in my wildest dreams
thanks for the help :) we have an appointment on wednesday for his shots and I will find out if he is gaining enough weight and all that jazz... yeah, he seems to be hungry every 1-3 hours during the day but at night he will sleep 3-4 hours.. which is really nice for mommy :) it's funny though, that you actually get HAPPY about sleeping 4 hour stretches lol

I'm happy when I get at least 3 hrs uninteruppted sleep. I got almost 7 mostly uninteruppet hours of sleep last night and it was oh so nice (and oh so very rare) and if I were at home right now I would probably put that energy to use organizing the pigsty in living.
Adam was sleeping 12 hours straight through at 5 months. Josh was doing 10-12 at 2 months but has since regressed to waking anywhere from 2-6 times a night. Adam was formula fed and Josh is breastfed, is that makes any difference. :)
