How is the going for you girls? I know Jess just went through a growth spurt with Dean, but, was curious how much you need to suppliment, if any? What about you Donna...how R U doing?
I'll update on me: I'm basically exclusively pumping. Austin's gotten to the point that he doesn't want to nurse. It's rare that he will, but, I definitely let him as much as he will allow me to. Back when I tried that medication to increase my supply from my doctor, my supply started dropping to 5-6 oz a day. Now that I'm off of it and have been pumping every 3 - 3 1/2 hrs and for 30 minutes at each pump (meanwhile using massage and compression), I'm making anywhere from 9-10 oz a day! When I had started going every 3 hours, I was only making 7-8 oz...so, this is definitely an increase. I've been trying to pump non-stop during the weekends (pump OR nurse) to try to increase my supply some. He usually gets a 7 oz bottle of EBM to take to DC with him, and about every 3-4 days, I have enough to give them 2 7oz bottles.
I have YET to have any signs of AF. KNOCK ON WOOD!
I'm glad to hear things are improving Bel, thats great !! I'm so proud of you , I know how time consuming and what a job pumping is. And woohoo on no AF yet. I'll be crossing my fingers that she stays lost for you
We're still doing great with BF'ing here. I'm pretty sure Jayden's in his growth spurt as well, he's been nursing way more than usual and he's been uncontrollably fussy. Today is day three of this so I'm praying it ends soon, I'm totally exhausted. He's still sleeping through the night - goes down around 11pm - nurses around 5/6am - wakes up for a couple hours around 8am. Thanks gawd for that cuz I don't think I could handle him during the night too the way he's been ! We did have his pooping issues under control for a few days (he was going once a day), but nothing yesterday or today so far and he seems to be feeling it which is only adding to the problems. I've had to cut way back on my extra pumping, its just not doable right now with him as miserable as he is. So I pump in the morning, try to throw in another one in the afternoon and then once in the evening (twice if I'm lucky). So I guess I'm freezing about 15oz a day now instead of the usual 22oz or so. I have introduced the bottle and haven't seen any neg. effects, he gets one usually every other day so I can start rotating my stash.
My only complaint (well other than his behavior right now ) is that hes a spitter upper. Every single feeding - usually its immediate like as soon as hes off the boob and your lifting him up and then he will hurl again soon after. Then he will just spit up a couple times after that. This is new to us, none of the other ones were like this (even when Peyton had reflux)..... hmmmm.... how normal is this??
We started not useing the shields yesterday, but today it's like the milk isn't coming fast enough, and he's getting frustrated, and pulling off...and then crying. I can't tell if he's hungry or reflux, so i'm just trying to be patient. He sleeps so much better in my bed than in his pnp, so i guess he will be sleeping with me after his first feed at night....
DH gets him to sleep in his pnp, and the when he wakes to feed, i get him, lay him down in my bed, and nurse him laying down. I usually fall asleep, and i wake up, and he's out cold, and my boob is hanging out Then when he fusses, we do the same thing.....last night (early this morning) i tried to move him back to the pnp (i'm a tummy sleeper, and ica n't do it while he is in my bed) and i heard him spitting up, and chokeing on it, and gaggin and stuff...then he was up for good at 5:30...so tonight he is stayin gin my bed...
Bel- Are you sure he's emptying u completely? My LLL leader yersterday sugested nurseing for 4 hrs on one side, and then 4 hrs on the other....i don't know if that would help you. I tried it yesterday, and the side i didn't nurse on was leaking really bad and i felt engourged. Did you try the steel cut oats?
My uterus is screaming at me to MAKE MORE BABIES!!
Donna, spitting up is normal! Both of my girls were major spitter uppers, I have clothes of mine that have some staining due to the force of someof it. They usually only spit up the overflow and it does get better as the (crap, can't think of what it's called but it's like a spinchter above your stomach) gets matured and can stay closed.
Bel, I am so proud of you with the pumping! I am a wierdo and liked the pumping when I worked, but that was because I was guaranteed a break and my pumping times hit about the time when I was getting irritated and angry ! You are awesome!
Darn it! I have not gotten the steel cut oats. I completely forgot! I'm going to the speciality store tonight and will get them there. Dern! I knew I was forgetting something. I'm usually completely emptied, and regardless, when he's done nursing I pump right after.
I meant to ask....this sounds silly, but what should I have my pump setting on???? I have the Medela Pump in Style that's OLD. But, I have it set on 5 and start off pumping on low and then increase to Med. Is that right? I konw I should do the suction (Low, med, high) to comfort, but, what about the speeds??????
i would say play with the speed to see if you get more out. the lll leader told me what works for someone may not work for amother person. have you considered a hospital grade pump? the lll leader told me the pns isn't great for increasing supply...she suggested to me a symphony for 1 month to seeif it helped...just an idea..
Speed and suction vary for each person. Ussually you would want to start fast, as baby ussually nurses fast then slows down when the milk starts coming out. But play with it and see what works best for you.
