Default Supply increase

Ok, like many of you, all of sudden, my supply has really decreased. I've taken everything I knew to take, and even stopped my mini pill, just in case that is the reason. I've been under a lot stress with our finances lately, so I'm really thinking that could be the problem. Anyway... I decided to go and rent a hospital grade pump, the Medela Symphony. OMG!, I've almost doubled what I was pumping with mine. I have a new PISA that I bought right after Austin was born and it's done great, but I can't believe the difference with the Symphony. Fortunately, my flex benefits will pay for this (and actually paid for my breastpump). I'm so excited now. I was so upset to think after 11 months of exclusively BF and pumping, that I'd have to send formula with Austin to DC. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but I've been so proud, I've been able to exclusively BF and pump this long. I know he seems to get plenty when he nurses, I just don't pump as much as I use to. My stash was dwindling down very quickly. So, that's another option for those of you that aren't getting much pumping with your machine.

Hospital grade pumps are better. I rented one for a few months. But then I gave up on pumps and just hand expressed for the next 8 months.

Did you try changing out your membranes, valves, and tubing on your other pump? Those need to get changed periodically.

I did, I've changed out to new stuff with everything. I've never tried hand expressing. I love this pump though. I am thinking about renting it for a month or two. Austin will be a year old next month, so when I go back to my pump, if I don't pump enough to send to DC, I'll just supplement with regular milk. I plan on continuing to nurse for as long as he wants to and my body keeps supplying.

Yes, congrats on the 11 month mark. That really is awesome!

I rented the Symphony before I came back to work, but it's just so expensive, I didn't want to continue to do that...plus it's bulky to carry to work to pump and doesn't have storage for EBM. How are you going to store your expressed BM while at work???

I put my Symphony in my bag that my PISA came in. I have the Limited Edition PISA from last year, it's a blue/brown bag. So I have my pump and the cooler bag to store your milk in that bag. I always keep my milk the cooler bag with the ice pack that came with my pump. I do have a refrigerator in my classroom as well, and sometimes I keep it in there in the cooler bag.

Thanks ladies, y'all have been wonderful encourager's. I never would have believed I would be BF this long. Especially when that 1st month was so hard and frustrating for me. It has been such a wonderful experience for Austin and I. One of my students is pregnant and we talk a lot. She said she's planning on BF, so I've really been encouraging her.

Hospital pumps are great! I used them when Lex was in the hospital and had to pump for Olivia.

Congrats on the 11 month mark! I know how you feel! It is so exciting and just an awesome feeling! I still think how neat it is that YOU not only carried your baby and supplied it with everything it needed, then gave birth, and then still gave it everything it needed by breastfeeding. Miracle of life! We have just a week left to make it to a year and I am so excited! Although with how addicted Ella is to her milk-milk I won't be surprised if I am laying down with her in kindergarten at nap time!
