I figured I should post this soon before I forget
I was due on August 20th. With my first DS I was 12 days over due so I figured that I would probably be late with this one too.
On August 11th I spent most of the day at my work. I had already started my mat leave but I missed everyone so I was up there visiting. I got home at about 3:00pm and I was resting on my coach because my feet hurt. At about 4:00 I got up to go to the bathroom and all of a sudden my pants got really wet. I thought that is weird I really didn't know if I had peed myself (it was a lot if it was pee) or if my water had broke. I waited for my DH to get off of work.
He came in at about 4:45. By that time I was having menstrual type cramps again (I had been getting these for the past 2 days) I told DH I may have broke my water. He said we should go to the hospital and get it checked. I really didn't want to drive all the way there (about half an hour) just to be told I peed my pants! I put up a fight for a bit but gave in. When we got there they tested it and sure enough the stick turned black instantly! They told us we will be staying the night It was about 5:30. I called my mom and she came to get Brayden. We had my bag and his packed just in case, good thing. So we got in our room and got all set up. I was monitered for a little while. There was little contractions but nothing big. Dave and I started doing laps around the hospital until we finally went to bed at 11ish At this point I was still having little cramps.
August 12
The Dr came to check me that morning at 9:00 I was only 2cm at this point
Not really any change but my cervix was softer. She inserted cervidil. We waited all day long. I was monitered through out the day. My contractions were getting a little stronger but not a whole lot. At about 4:30 the Dr came to check me. I was maybe around 3cm. She inserted another cervidil and left. A little while later Dave and I asked if we could have a day pass and go to my moms for dinner. They let us go and even said if I wasn't feeling anything we could stay the night! Yippee we both jumped on that opportunity. It was totally what we needed we both had a good shower and a good sleep.
August 13
We went back to the hospital at about 9:00am They checked me and still no progress. At this point my water had been broken for around 41 hours. They started talking about a csection. We would first wait and see if pitocin would do anything. My Dr came in. She checked me and still no change. So she manually dilated me to 5! ouch. She said that that should work because that is when you are considered in 'active' labor. At 3:30 they start the pit. For the rest of the day I was straped to the monitor and VERY board! My dad came in and rented a hotel room down the road. We had just moved in to a new house and wanted to show my dad. My Dr aloud us to leave for an hour so we drove back to my town (something she told us not to do) I was having SOO much pressure by this time so we went straight back. They checked me and the baby was VERY low My dad wanted us to get another day pass to come eat BBQ with them. I couldn't I was too uncomfortable
. Dave went though and I just watched T.V That night they came in every half an hour and checked on the baby and turn up the pit. at 4:00am they turned it down because I was having one continuous contraction. Then back up at 5:00am because they were slowing way down
August 14
My Dr came in and checked me that morning. I was still at 5cm. The only change I had was the baby was very low. She was very concerned about how long my water had been broken. Although they were checking my temp every hour she was still very worried about infection. She called a specialist in because she didn't want to break the rest of my water with the baby as low as he was. He just happened to be in town. He is a professor at a university on the coast. He came in at 12:30. He used a special little instrument to get around the babies head and to the rest of the bag of waters. He told me that TODAY we are having a baby even if he has to perform surgery. He told my Dr if there was any more complications to call him immediatly. I started to get a little anxious at that point. With in minutes I started having very painful contractions and after about 45min I was in transition. My Dr had just left and didn't think I would be ready to push that quickly! She came right back. I didn't have time for any meds but the gas. When she told me to start pushing my body did it all. After 2 pushes Maddox was born at 1:40. He didn't even have time to have a cone shaped head!
We were vey happy the 3 day ordeal was over. Everyone thought I was having a girl. When Maddox was born it was almost surreal. When they said it's a boy I didn't beleive them. I wanted to say "then it is not mine I am having a girl!"
I had pink everything (as gifts) We weren't disappointed really just more in total shock
I think because we were both completely exhausted at that point. We couldn't be happier with are little man now and feel so blessed to have him in our family
